Mr. Albert Dale Salsman, age 87, of Route 187, Sugar Run, PA, went home to be with his Savior on Wednesday afternoon, February 11, 2015, at the Gino J. Merli Veterans' Center in Scranton, PA.
Dale was born on June 16, 1927 on Golden Hill, Windham twp., Wyoming Co., PA the son of the late Frank and Vergie Harris Salsman.
Dale joined the US Army in June of 1945 and was honorably discharged in November of 1947, serving in Germany during that time. Dale purchased a farm in Wilmot Township in 1948 and married Detta Mary VanDeMark on July 2, 1949. Dale and Mary were married for 58 years, until her passing on August 2, 2007. He operated the dairy farm in Wilmot Township, until 1964. Afterward he was employed for Agway in Laceyville until he was hired at Proctor and Gamble in Mehoopany, where he worked in their wood yard until his retirement in 1992.
Dale attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville for many years. He enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting, cutting wood, farming, and raising beef cattle.
He is survived by his three sons and their wives, Wayne and Elton Salsman, of Sugar Run, PA; Norman and Naomi Salsman, of Laceyville, PA; Brian and Crystal Salsman, of Sugar Run, PA. Also surviving him are his eight grandchildren, Chad (Susan) Salsman; Chris (Rhiannon) Salsman; Jody Salsman; Jonniann Butterfield; Jay (Michelle) Salsman; Isaiah Salsman; Caleb Salsman; and Kelcy (Saddraid) Hubbard. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren. Dale is also survived by his brother, Carl Salsman of Laceyville, PA, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides his wife and his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Gladys Aten; and four brothers, Ralph Salsman; Kenneth Salsman; Clifford Salsman; and Leon Salsman.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 16, 2015 at 11:00 AM, at the Braintrim Baptist Church, in Laceyville, PA. with Rev. Thomas Davis of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Bradford County Memorial Park in Luther Mills, PA. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA on Sunday afternoon, February 15, 2015 from 2:00 to 4:00 PM. Military services will be conducted by the members of the Rought Hall Post # 510 American Legion, of Black Walnut, PA; the Dennis Strong Post # 457 American Legion of Tunkhannock, PA; and the Endless Mountains Post # 3583 V.F.W. of Mehoopany, PA, at the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, on Monday morning prior to the funeral services.
