Alden N. Brown, age 80, of LeRaysville, PA passed away on Saturday morning January 11, 2025 at the Meadowview Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in Montrose, PA.
Alden was born on June 28, 1944 in Towanda, PA the son of the late Floyd M. Brown, Jr. (d. October 3, 1995) and Doris M. Newman Brown (d. January 2, 2011).
He was a diehard over the road Truck Driver for a total of 49 years. The last 12 years of his career he was an independent driver. The previous years he was employed with Wickwire Trucking, Dick Bowen, Walt Romanik and Terry Gray.
Watching old western movies and shows was a favorite pastime for Alden. He took great pleasure working with his John Deere tractor. He also enjoyed hunting and in his younger years, playing baseball.
On June 28, 1969, Alden married Virginia Edsell Brown and the two celebrated 54 years of marriage before her passing on February 2, 2024.
Alden is survived by his daughter, Nioma Bernstein of Tunkhannock, PA; his granddaughter, Gabbrianna Maxwell and her husband, Jonathan of Pittsburgh, PA; his siblings and spouses, Dennis and Linda Brown of Charlotte, NC, Floyd "Tim" and Sandra Brown of Montrose, PA, Connie and David Lippner of Towanda, PA and Lakeland, FL, Karen Russick of Lakeland, FL, Diana and Ronnie Schoonover of Laceyville, PA, Mary Lou Smith of Meshoppen, PA and Rebecca Smith of Pittston, PA; his brothers/sisters-in-law, Dawn and George Bolles of Laceyville, PA, Carl and Mary Edsell of Stevensville, PA, Gene and Gloria Edsell of Stevensville, PA, Harriet Payton of Stevensville, PA, Leo and Cheryl Edsell of Stevensville, PA, Ed Taylor of LeRaysville, PA and William Payton of Stevensville, PA; as well as many nieces, nephews, and their families.
Besides his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Wilbert Brown (d. April 26, 1988) and Gary Brown (d. June 23, 1978); his sister, Laura Lee Baker (d. December 2, 2021); and his brothers/sisters-in-law, Clarence Williams (d. July 4, 2006), George Smith (d. July 23, 1992), Sam Smith (d. May 12, 2021), and Max Russick (d. August 5, 2016); David Baker (d. October 1, 1994) and Oma Taylor (d. May 19, 2023).
There will be a private service for Alden and Virginia at a later date. Interment will take place at the Stevens Cemetery, LeRaysville, PA.
The family would like to thank Hospice of the Sacred Heart of Wilkes-Barre, PA for their compassionate care of Alden.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
