Alice Sherwood, age 77, of Meshoppen, PA, went to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 2, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Alice was born on September 8, 1940, in Wyalusing, PA, the daughter of the late Hartley and Mary Sine Pennay. Alice was a graduate of Wyalusing Valley High School with the class of 1958. On August 12, 1961 she married Wayne Sherwood and together they had two children. Alice worked as bank teller at Grange National Bank in Laceyville, PA and later at the Meshoppen branch. She was the secretary of the Meshoppen Borough for a number of years and also volunteered her time as secretary of the Kiwanis Wyoming County Fair Dairy Committee.

Alice was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, bowling, square dancing and roller-skating.  Alice was a hard working and faithful farm wife who enjoyed cooking, canning, and making homemade chocolate chip cookies with her grandchildren. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends.

Alice is survived by her husband of 57 years, Wayne Sherwood of Meshoppen, PA; her son Roger Sherwood and his wife Gina of Meshoppen, PA; her daughter Betsy Sprout and her husband Craig of Montrose, PA; grandchildren Luke Sherwood; Carly Okoth (Fred); Emma Sherwood; James Sherwood; Ryan Sprout; Christian Sprout; and Rachel Sprout. She is also survived by her siblings Marie Thingelstad of Kansas City, KS; Jean Sands (Dean) of Meshoppen; Irene Shiffer of Tunkhannock, PA; sisters-in-law Mariann Oakes of Montrose, PA; Sylvania Pennay of Tunkhannock, PA; as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents Alice was preceded in death by her infant brother, Clarence Pennay; brothers, Robert Pennay, Donald Pennay, Arthur Pennay, Charles Pennay; sisters-in-law; Patricia Pennay; Connie Pennay; Ruth Ann Dunlap; and brothers-in-law; Rolf Thingelstad; Edward Shiffer; and Robert Dunlap.

Funeral services for Alice will be held on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 at 1:00 PM from the Meshoppen United Methodist Church with Reverend Scott Ryan of the church and Mr. Joseph Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Overfield Cemetery.
