July 2, 1929 – July 11, 2022
Alice Tewksbury Smith, age 93, a resident of Gracious Living Estates, in Montrose, PA, passed away early Monday morning July 11, 2022 at Gracious Living.
Alice was born in Auburn township, PA. on July 2, 1929, the daughter of the late Cleon and Grace Tewksbury. Growing up in the Retta area, just outside of Meshoppen, PA, she was a graduate of the Meshoppen High School with the class of 1947. After her graduation from high school, she later would get her teaching degrees for music and the arts.
After her marriage to her husband, Donald R. Smith, they lived for many years, in the southeastern part of Pennsylvania. During that time, Alice was a music and art teacher at High School's in their area of her residence. While having the summer time off from her teaching, Alice and Donald would return to the Retta area, where they resided on the family farm in Retta. After their retirement they would retire to Retta, where they lived for many years, until Donald's passing on April 28, 2002.
While living in Retta, Alice was well known for her art talent, showing many of her paintings, to many of her family and friends. She was also the organist for many churches, including, the Retta United Methodist Church, the Jersey Hill Community Church, and the South Auburn United Methodist Church.
During the ten plus years residing at the Gracious Living Estates, she was a well-respected resident, and was known to the Gracious Living Staff as "Granny".
Surviving are many cousins, Arden Tewksbury (Carol Sullivan) of South Auburn, PA; John and Charlene Tewksbury, of South Auburn, PA; Loretta Guiton, of Lawton, PA; Diane and Rick Lewis of Forkston, PA; George and Pat Mowry, of South Auburn, PA; Donna Bennett, od Laceyville, PA; Joan Anderson, of Tunkhannock, PA; and Ralph Tewksbury, of West Virginia.
Graveside services will be held on Friday morning at 11:00 AM, July 15, 2022 at the Jersey Hill Cemetery in Auburn, PA, with Rev. Ron Folk, of the South Auburn United Methodist Church officiating.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations in Alice Tewksbury Smith's name, to the favorite church of the donor's choice.
