Obituary

Mrs. Anna T. Underwood, age 88, of Rock Hill, Laceyville, PA., passed away at the Golden Living Center in Tunkhannock, PA. early Sunday morning, June 22, 2014.

She was born in Sayre, PA., on February 8, 1926 the daughter of the late John R. and Ethel Mae Brown Trowbridge. Growing up on North Flat, near Laceyville, she was a graduate of the Laceyville High School, with the class of 1944. The next four years were spent at Mansfield State Teachers College, where she graduated with the class of 1948. She later taught at the West Auburn School. Anna was the wife of the late Carl J. Underwood, who preceded her in death, on April 7, 2010.

For many years, Mrs. Underwood attended the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville. While in good health, and up until just a few years ago, she was also a very active member of the Meshoppen Chapter #70 of Eastern Star, where she served her lodge as Worthy Matron for three terms, as well as many other offices and chairs.

She took great pleasure in the art of canning, freezing, and preserving and also cooking for large family get-togethers. She was also infamous for her letter writing which will be greatly missed by her recipients. Her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy. Prior to and after her husband's retirement, they spent many winters in Texas with Kay and Chuck's families.

Surviving are her children, Charles J. (Elia) Underwood, of Rosharon, TX; Robert C. Underwood, of Laceyville, PA.; Connie B. (William) Smith of Nicholson, PA.; Carla J. Underwood, of Laceyville, PA.; and Kay L. (Franco) Mendoza, of Pearland, TX. Her 8 grandchildren, Daniel (Amanda) Underwood, of Pearland, TX; Jamie (Robert) Williams, of McKinney, TX; AWR 2 Christopher Underwood, of Jacksonville, FL; Theodore Smith, of Doylestown, PA; Rebekah (Edward) Burke, of Meshoppen, PA; Jeremiah (Amanda) Smith, of Nicholson, PA; Michelle Mendoza, and Maegan Mendoza, both of Pearland, TX, as well as her 11 great-grandchildren, Rylee, Brody, and Aubrey Underwood, of Pearland, TX; Haydon and triplets Kensley, Annalise and Easton Williams of McKinney, TX, Mason and Logan Smith of Doylestown, PA.; and Molly and Liam Burke, of Meshoppen, PA., and 2 on the way and 2 step great-grandchildren, Ryan Divito, and Jordan Divito, both of Pipersville, PA. Brother in law, Adelbert (Sally Ann) Underwood, of Willis, TX; and a sister in law, Norma Trowbridge, of Laceyville, PA, as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Donald Trowbridge, a sister in law, and brother in law Charlotte and Elmer Cook, and a sister in law, Beatrice Underwood.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 26, 2014, at 12:00 noon from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA. with Rev. Thomas Davis of the Braintrim Baptist Church in Laceyville, officiating, Interment will be in the North Flat Cemetery, in Laceyville, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM and on Thursday from 11:00 until the time of the service.
