Barbara Noreen Smith, age 83, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Friday afternoon, August 4, 2017 at the Skilled Nursing Unit at Guthrie Towanda Memorial Hospital.

Barb was born in Binghamton, NY on December 7, 1933 the daughter of the late Clarence and Betty Hicks. She graduated from Montrose High School with the class of 1951 and from Mansfield State Teachers College in 1955.

She grew up in Fairdale, PA and remained there until she married her husband Paul T. Smith on June 18, 1955. After they were married Barb and Paul settled in Wyalusing, PA. Barb taught 2nd grade at the Wyalusing Elementary School for three years from 1955-1958. Her and Paul had two children Suzanne and Jeffery. After the children began school Barb became a part-time teacher in the Wyalusing School District until her retirement.

Barb was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women. She was in charge of the Altar flowers for many years. She was a member of the Wyalusing Lioness Club for 35 years. She was a former member of the Wyalusing Chapter 523 of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Fortnightly Club. She enjoyed volunteering as part of the Grandparent Program at the Wyalusing Elementary School for several years and loved working with the children. She also volunteered with the Meals on Wheels and the Bloodmobile for many years. She enjoyed camping at Bonin Lake and taking trips especially to Myrtle Beach and Alaska. She loved feeding the birds, planting different flowers for each season, and decorating the house inside and out each holiday.

Barb is survived by her husband of 62 years, Paul T. Smith of Wyalusing, PA; her son, Jeffrey T. Smith, of Wyalusing, PA; her daughter, Suzanne E. Morgan and her husband Jack of Black Walnut, PA; her grandchildren Aaron Eastabrook and his wife Lindsay of LeRaysville, PA, and Cody Morgan and his wife Nicole of Tunkhannock, PA; her great grandchildren, Chasity and Dylan Eastabrook; her brother, Louis Hicks and his wife Marge; as well a several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her sister and her husband Sandra and Douglas Adriance; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, William and Carrie Smith; and her sister-in-law, Jane Phillips.

A funeral service for Barb will be held on Tuesday, August 8, 2017 at 2:00 PM from the Wyalusing United Methodist Church with Reverend Heath Baker-McAllister of the church officiating. A Lioness service will also be conducted by the member of the Wyalusing Lioness Club. Interment will follow at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church on Tuesday from 1:00 until the time of the service.
