Barbara L. (Wood) McGroarty, age 85, of Towanda, PA (formerly of New Albany) passed away with her loving family by her side on Friday, July 21, 2017 at the Towanda Personal Care Home.

Barbara was born on March 3, 1932 in Towanda Township, PA the daughter of the late States Greg and Bessie Sherman Wood. She graduated from the Towanda High School with the class of 1950.

She was employed as a telephone operator for many years. She was also employed by the Rynvelds Wreath Factory for 27 years until they closed in 1991. After the plant closing she helped the elderly with at home care all over the area for 10 years.

Barbara attended the New Albany and the Towanda United Methodist Churches. She loved to travel all over the country and to go on cruises. Most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Diane McGroarty of Somers, CT, Judith Miller and her husband Scott of Fort Myers, FL, and Hugh McGroarty of Fort Myers, Fl; her grandchildren, Seana Larson, Erin Larson, Jared McGroarty, and Allman Miller; her great-grandchildren Jayce, Elisia, and Peyton McGroarty, her brothers States Wood and his wife Norma of Manchester, CT, and Dale Wood and his wife Linda of Towanda, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her son, Patrick McGroarty in 1981, her daughter Theresa McGroarty in 1991, her grandson Brenden Larson in 2007, and her siblings, Harriet Murphy, Lillian Bump, Wayne Wood, and Richard Wood.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the New Albany Volunteer Fire Hall on Monday, July 24, 2017 at 12:00 noon with her brother, States Wood officiating.
