Obituary

Betty Joan Newhart Hadsall 86, of Meshoppen passed away at Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore early Sunday morning March 12, 2023.

She was born on March 16, 1936 in Sayre, the daughter of the late Maurice (d.2001) and Vivian Bishop Newhart (d 1991).

Betty attended a one-room schoolhouse in Laceyville, until the eighth grade. She then attended Laceyville High School until her graduation in 1953.

Betty married William Hadsall on June 26, 1954 and they were happily married for 64 years.

Betty was a strong independent woman. She taught herself how to drive, although her husband had to get the car out of a few tight spots, like between two trees or sideways in the garage.

She would spend most of her retired days either building dollhouses for her grandkids, listening to Johnny Cash, or in one of her many flower gardens. She also had a strawberry patch that always had someone in it.

She was employed at Procter and Gamble for 25+ years, in the Cost Department for paper making. Betty always joked that it took someone with a bachelors degree to replace her since she graduated from a one-room schoolhouse.

Betty is survived by her four children Patrick Hadsall of Tucson Az; Jill Stanton and her husband Karl of Houston DE; Michael Hadsall of Factoryville; and Jane Fitch and her husband Adam of Springville; her grandchildren: Angelica Hadsall (Arturo Loperena), Christopher Hadsall, Randalynn Kennedy (Scott), Ashley Hoffer (Rob), Matthew Hadsall, Casey Sickler (Ben), and Ryleigh Swire (Cole); her great-grandchildren: Elijah Hadsall, Claire Sickler, and Liam Loperena-Hadsall and one more great-grandson coming in July; her siblings Raymond Newhart, Patricia Kelley, Margaret Hunsinger, James Newhart, Ernest Newhart, Ronald Newhart, Linda Bennett, Robert Newhart. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband William J. Hadsall (d. 2019), grandson Anthony K. Stanton (d 1994), her siblings Ruth M. Newhart (d.1939), Virginia L. Gladden (d.1992), Dawn E. Bennett (d 2010); and Maurice P. Newhart Jr (d.2014).

There will be a private graveside service at the Vaughn Cemetery at the convenience of the family on a later date.

The family would like to thank Celebration Villa in Peckville and Hospice of the Sacred Heart in Dunmore for their care of Betty.
