Obituary

Betty M. Kitchnefsky, age 89, of Laceyville, PA, passed away on Friday afternoon, November 10, 2023, at the Wilkes Barre General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family.

Betty was born in Tunkhannock, PA, on July 23, 1934, the youngest of 10 children, born to Simon and Della Mosier Kitchnefsky. Growing up in Tunkhannock township, Betty grew up on the Kitchnefsky Farm on the top of German Hill.

Betty was a graduate of the Tunkhannock High School with the class of 1952. For over thirty years, Betty was employed as a cutter at the Endicott Johnson Shoe Factory in Tunkhannock, PA.

For many years, Betty was the companion of Nicholas T. Carnevale, who passed away on November 27, 2001. Together Betty and Nick, enjoyed many years together, either fishing in the Susquehanna River, where they had a riverside camp, or enjoying time spent in Las Vegas, Atlantic City, or at the local casinos at Mohegan Sun, or Tioga Downs.

It was during those years with Nick, that Betty started helping and working at the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion, in Black Walnut, PA. Betty enjoyed cooking for the weekly Bingo Nights, and was very instrumental for keeping the Bingo going for many years. Anything that was going on at the Legion for the last 30 years, Betty was involved. She loved working and enjoyed the many years with the Rought Hall Legion Family. Besides being a very active member of the Rought Hall Post#510 American Legion Auxiliary, she was also a member of the St Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen, PA, and spent many hours and days, at the Roast Beef Stand at the Wyoming County Fair. Betty was also seen outside her home in Black Walnut weather it be mowing her lawn, or working in her flower gardens.

Besides her parents, and her beloved Nick, Betty was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 3 sisters. Surviving are many nieces and nephews, and many friends, and her fellow American Legion members.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday morning, November 17, 2023, at 11:00 AM from the St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen, PA, with Father Patrick Albert of the church officiating. Interment will be in the Pietta Cemetery in Tunkhannock, PA. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA, on Thursday evening November 16, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 PM. A Rosary will be recited on Thursday evening at 8:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations in Betty's name to the Rought Hall Post# 510 American Legion Auxiliary, 328 Old Route 6 Rd., Laceyville, PA 18623.
