Betty O. (Otis) Hillis, age 83, of Twin Cuts Road in Wyalusing went to with be the Lord on Tuesday morning, April 4, 2017 at her home with her loving daughters, Faith and Ava, special caregiver Helga, and special niece, Phyllis by her side.

Betty was born on October 30, 1933 at the Otis farmhouse in Camptown, the daughter of the late Harry and Luella VanNess Otis. She graduated from Camptown High School with the class of 1952.

Betty was married to the late Donald E. Hillis and together they had two daughters. She was a farmhouse wife for her family. She was also employed at the Camptown Dress Factory in the Janitorial Department. She cleaned houses for Jane Carey and worked for John and Kate McPherson's Gas Station in Camptown, PA.

She was a member of the Camptown Community Church and the Camptown United Methodist Women. When she and her husband were farming she was a member of the Dairymen's League. Betty was the President of the Parents/Teachers Organization when her daughters were in school. She and Don always welcomed kids into her house with open arms. In fact throughout the years there were 18 unrelated people that called the Hillis Farm home. In the fall Betty and Don opened the farm up to hunting friends from Philadelphia. She loved to garden and can home grown vegetables. In the evening she could always be found with her crossword puzzles and Crypto-Quote at the kitchen table. When friends visited there was often several hands of cards played, popcorn eaten, and homemade cider drank. She absolutely loved all animals especially her toy poodle, Nigel, who left us in August and most recently her four-legged friend Winston, who remained faithful until the end with her cats Tigger and Pooh. Most of all she loved the time she spent with her family.

Betty is survived by her daughters Faith Jaynes and her husband, David, of Herrick twp., PA, Ava Tunnicliff and her husband, Ricky, of Wyalusing twp., PA; her grandson Cody Tunnicliff of Wyalusing twp., PA,; her extended family Judy Gardner and her children Leonice Jones, and Keshon Gardner of Wyalusing twp., PA and Tammy Gardner Slaza and her husband Tony of Wyalusing twp., PA; her special niece and nephew Phyllis and Gary Otis, who took great care of Betty for years; her special caregivers Carol O'Brien, Christina Burrell, Tabitha Kittle, Jessica Hotaling, LaRay Gilbert, Ethel Walter, Helga Collister, Ellen Nitcznski, Flo Murray, Sherry Harris, Coy Wayne Kurtz, and Marylin Waluk; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, Don, of 49 years, and her parents she was preceded in death by her siblings and their spouses Clifford and Helen Otis, Adelbert and Martha Otis, Carl and Laura Mae Otis, Wilmot "Bill" and Marfisa Otis, Emily and Joseph Kinsley and two very special men, John Oliver Lynn, who treated Betty like his own daughter after the death of her father and David Gardner, who worked side by side with Betty and Don on the farm for 42 years.

Funeral services for Betty will be held on Monday, April 10, 2017 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with Reverend William Westbrook from the Camptown Charge officiating. Interment will follow at the Camptown Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday, April 9, 2017 from 3:00-5:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
