Obituary
Betty Lucille Platt, age 92, of 345 Meshoppen Creek Road, Meshoppen, PA passed away Thursday January 1, 2015 at Celtic Hospice at the Geisinger South Wilkes-Barre Hospital.
Betty was born in Dover, NJ on December 29, 1922 the daughter of the late George and Margaret Edwards Shaner. She graduated from the Dover High School with the Class of 1940. She was married to Donald E. Platt who passed away on December 18, 1987. Betty and her husband owned and operated a lamp and lighting fixtures store called Lamplighter of Lafayette located in Lafayette, NJ. After their retirement they moved into the Meshoppen area.
Betty was a member of the St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Tunkhannock, PA as well as the Easter Star Meshoppen Chapter #70. She was also a very active member of the Tyler Memorial Hospital Auxillary for over the last fifteen years. Betty loved to travel and going antique shopping. She traveled through the U.S. and Canadian Rocky Mountains up into the state of Alaska. Betty also enjoyed taking steam boat trips on the Ohio, Missouri, and Mississippi Rivers.
Betty is survived by her husband Jack H. Brewer, whom she married in the fall of 2014, of Meshoppen, PA; son Richard and his wife Betty Platt of Rockaway Township, NJ; and granddaughter Jennifer Platt also of Rockaway Township, NJ. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and first husband Betty is preceded in death by her sisters Margaret Sanders who passed away in 2005 and Hazel Dennis who passed away in 1990.
Funeral services for Betty will be held on Tuesday morning January 6, 2015 at 11:00 AM at the St. Peter's Episcopal Church in Tunkhannock, PA with the Reverend Lou Divis of the church officiating. Family and friends may call on the evening of January 5, 2015 from 4:00-7:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6, Meshoppen, PA. Eastern Star services will be held at the conclusion of the calling hours by the members of the Eastern Star Meshoppen Chapter #70. Interment will be in the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen, PA.
