Betty A. Spencer, age 84, of Silvara, PA, passed away on Friday morning, January 19, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loving family.
Betty was born on August 23, 1933, the daughter of the late Floyd E. and Lillian Bullock in Scottsville, PA. She was part of the last graduating class of Mehoopany High School. On March 20, 1953 she married John D. Spencer. The couple owned and operated Silvara Gun Shop for over 25 years through the 1960's, 70's, and 80's. They also sold Arctic Cat snowmobiles as well as Yamaha and Suzuki motorcycles at the gun shop. In the mid 1980's they also owned and operated Spencer's Furniture Store together.
Betty was a member of the Silvara United Methodist Church. She was the President of the Silvara Ladies' Aid for over 50 years, she spent many hours on planning and helping with dinners. She also helped with the Goodwill Fire Company Auxillary and the Laceyville Oldest House. She helped at the Wyoming County Fair in the apiary department. Betty loved to bake, cook, and make crafts. She entered her crafts, baked goods, and candy into the Wyoming County Fair, Luzerne County Fair, Sullivan County Fair, Hartford Fair, and Allentown Fair while winning many ribbons and awards including best of shows. She enjoyed spending time on the porch and swing at the Spencer Family Farm. Most of all Betty loved spending time with her family.
Besides her husband of 64 years, John D. Spencer of Silvara, PA, Betty is survived by her daughter Susan Anderson and her husband George of Tunkhannock, PA; grandchildren Tracy Gates and her husband Christopher of Meshoppen, PA; Bill Anderson of Meshoppen, PA; great-grandchildren Hailee Anderson and Jordyn Gates; and sister Irene Sivar of Salford, PA. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her parents.
By abiding to Betty's wishes there will be no funeral services or calling hours.
