Burton "Chuck" Robert Smith, age 77, of South Auburn, PA, passed away on Tuesday morning, October 24, 2017 at his home.

Chuck was born on October 8, 1940, at home in Meshoppen, PA, the son of the late Burton and Harriet Storey Smith. He attended Meshoppen High School and later Elk Lake High School, where he graduated with the Class of 1959. He drove truck all over the road for 54 years and truly loved his work. Chuck had his own business called Truck Transport.

On August 5, 1967, he married the former Kathleen Thorpe and they settled in South Auburn, PA in 1974, where they raised four children. The couple recently celebrated their 50th anniversary with their family. Chuck loved first his family, and then second the road and his trucks. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was the very best husband, father, brother, and Poppy that they could have asked for. He enjoyed his coffee and his time on the porch with his family and friends, especially the "Mikes" and the late Robert Bush. He was a loyal, honest, funny, hard-working, and respected man. He was so loved and will be missed by many.

Chuck is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Kathleen "Kathy" Thorpe Smith of South Auburn, PA; his children, Robert and his wife Denise of South Auburn, PA; Donald Smith of South Auburn, PA; Thomas Smith and his wife Milena of South Auburn, PA; and Elizabeth Nichols and her husband Scott of South Auburn, PA; his grandchildren Katelyn, Jordan, Olivia, Nicholas, Molly, Caleb, Sophia, Riley, Lucas, Jonah, and Emma; great-granddaughter Charlee. Also surviving are his siblings, Sam and MaryLou Smith of Meshoppen, PA; Sharon Smith Thorpe of Harrisburg, PA; Lana and Sidney "Tic" Davies of Meshoppen, PA; and Lori Anderson of Laceyville, PA; brother and sister-in-laws, Jerry and Joan Morgan; Don and Marty Thorpe; David and Melina Thorpe; Jeffery and Julia Thorpe; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Besides his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his brother Louis Smith (August 9, 2012); sister Holly Vaow (January 6, 2013) and brother-in-law Robert Vaow (January 25, 2012); and father and mother-in-law Donald (July 3, 1993) and Nancy Thorpe (February 28, 2015).

Funeral services for Chuck will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2017 at 12:00 Noon at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6, Meshoppen, PA with Lay Minister Vicki Ellis of the Beaver Meadows Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Beaver Meadows Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, October 27, 2017 from 1:00-3:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM.
