Carl B. Whitney, 86, of Beaver Meadows, PA, passed away Thursday morning, July 10, 2014 at Endless Mountains Health Care Systems in Montrose, PA. Carl was born June 8, 1928 at his family homestead in Beaver Meadows. He was the son of the late Bryce and Helen (Hunsinger) Whitney.
Carl was a graduate of Rush High School. He was a member of the Beaver Meadows United Methodist Church and Dairymen's League. Carl lived and worked on the family farm which was operational for over 100 years. He hauled canned milk for Dairylea for 13 years. Reading, talking with friends, and enjoying good food were some of his favorite pastimes. His wife, Marcella, and he loved square dancing and spent many of evenings twirling in the area dance halls. Being a good neighbor was of upmost importance. He will be remembered for his honesty, patience, and hearty laugh.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Marcella (Jayne) Whitney. Survivors also include daughter and son-in-law Donna and Richard Marcho of Gibson, PA; daughter Kathy Whitney and Alvard Kedrick of Mayfield, PA. He was preceded in death by his son Gary Whitney. He is also survived by a sister, Irene Squires of East Rush, PA, two grandchildren Jennifer Marcho and Tom Cox of Peckville, PA; Bradley and Michelle Marcho of Gibson, PA, three great grandchildren, Racheal, Olivia, and Halle Marcho, four nieces, one nephew, and one grand-nephew. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Gary Whitney who passed away on March 18, 1977 and a brother Max B. Whitney who passed away on March 25, 1989.
Funeral services will be held on Monday July 14, 2014 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA. with Rev. Dolly Tarreto of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Beaver Meadows Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, on Sunday afternoon July 13, 2014 from 3:00 to 5:00 PM.
