Caroline L. Newton Butts, age 98, of Towanda, PA passed away peacefully at the Bradford Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Troy, PA on Sunday afternoon, July 27, 2025, while in the presence of her loving family.

Born in New Albany, PA on June 19, 1927, Caroline was the daughter of the late Niles A. (d. Dec. 15, 1967) and Leona Mayo (d. Dec. 2, 1978) Newton, Sr.  Growing up in Bradford County, she attended Wyalusing Valley High School and graduated with the class of 1946.

After graduation, Caroline would go on to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville, SC before returning to Bradford County.  It was at this time she would meet her husband, the late Milton R. Butts, whom she married on January 7, 1956.  After working on the Butts Family Farm in Lime Hill, PA for several years, Caroline and Milton moved to New Jersey.  Here Caroline would find employment as a cook, serving several of the areas nursing homes.   The couple then headed south to Little Mountain, SC, where Caroline found work caring for her community's children at Little Angels Day Care. She was also a devout member of the Riverland Baptist Church in Columbia, SC.  In 2018, Caroline moved back to Bradford County and made a home in Towanda, PA where she became a member of the Independent Baptist Church.

Caroline had been residing at the Towanda Personal Care Home where she was described as a social butterfly and always the life of the party.  She enjoyed many hobbies, such as sewing, quilting, cooking, reading, word searches and various puzzles.

Caroline is survived by her children, Milton "David" Butts of Pine Hill, NJ, Daryl Butts (Gloria) of Phil Campbell, AL, and Darlene Humphries (Jim) of Columbia, SC; her grandchildren, Lawrence Butts (Beth), Joseph Butts, Niles Butts, Daniel "Evan" Felker (Rebecca), and Lauren Felker-Rouen ( Anthony); her great-grandchildren, Scarlett Rouen, Jaxson Felker, Ella Felker, Barrett Anthony Rouen, Luke Butts, and Ellian Lynn Butts; her sister, Joanne Reynolds of Towanda, PA; and her in-laws, Lois Newton (David) of Towanda, PA, C. Albert Bennett  (Norma) of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Newton (Niles) of Towanda, PA, Melvin "Dort" Lowrey (Lois) of Jacksonville, FL, and Kenneth Fox (Grace) of Williamsburg, VA.

Along with her husband and parents, Caroline was preceded in death by her sisters, Norma Bennet (d. Oct 18, 2011),  Lois Lowrey (d. July 17, 2017), and Grace Fox (d. June 11, 1993); her brothers, Niles Newton (d. Jan. 31, 2010) and David Newton (d. March 8, 2020); her grandchild, John Robert Felker; her sister-in-law, Edna Newton (d. Nov. 1986);  and her brother-in-law, F. Dewitt Reynolds (d. Jan 23, 2024).

A Funeral Service for Caroline will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St, Wyalusing, PA on Saturday, August 2, 2025 at 12:00 PM with Pastor Ed Newton officiating.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 11:00 AM until the time of service.  Interment will immediately follow the service and take place at the Lime Hill Cemetery.
