Obituary
Carrie Sue Smurkowski (33), beloved daughter, sister, friend, and animal lover passed away at her childhood home in Tunkhannock, PA early Wednesday morning, July 2, 2014, after a brave four year battle with cancer. She will be greatly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She taught us how to live life to the fullest and enjoy every moment and she will live on in our hearts forever.
She was born on February 25, 1981, a daughter of Chrisanne Belles LaBar and her husband Myron LaBar, and Stephen Smurkowski and his wife Debra Pope Smurkowski. Born in Towanda, PA, she spent most of her adult life in Scranton, PA.
A graduate of Bishop O'Reilly High School class of 1999, and Johnson College. Carrie fulfilled her dream of helping animals and worked for 10 years as a Veterinary Technician at Dr PAWS Hospital for Companion Animals in Scranton, PA.
She is survived by her beloved pets, dogs Franco, Dobbie, and Penny, and cats Miles, Ona and Meena. She is also survived by her parents, Chrisanne LaBar and her husband Myron, of Tunkhannock, PA.; and Stephen Smurkowski and his wife Debra, of Meshoppen, PA. She is also survived by 7 siblings, Elizabeth, Eric, and niece Hazel Derry, of Burlington,Vermont; Dustin LaBar and Laura Kingston, Centermoreland, PA; Erin Smurkowski, Philadelphia, PA; Mark Smurkowski, Meshoppen, PA; Jessica LaBar, Tunkhannock, PA; Mekhi LaBar, Tunkhannock, PA; and Samiah LaBar, Tunkhannock, PA. She is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. Carrie was preceded in death by her grandparents, Edward and Irene Smurkowski, and Edgar and Marie Belles.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at 10:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main Street, Meshoppen, PA, with a Mass of Christian Burial to be held at 11:00 AM from the St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church, Meshoppen, with Father Joseph Manarchuck of the church officiating. Interment will be in the St. Joachim's Cemetery, Meshoppen. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Friday, July 4, 2014, from 3:00 to 6:00 PM.
