Obituary

Charles Walter Ellis, Jr., age 92, of Brackney, PA, went to be with his Lord and Savior on June 8, 2026.

Charles was born at his childhood home in Landsdale, PA, December 11, 1933, to parents, Charles Walter Ellis, Sr. and Josephine Beck Ellis, both deceased.

Charles is survived by his wife, Priscilla Callaway Ellis of Brackney, PA, his sister, Josephine Papp, of Fairbanks, AK and his children, Charles “Mike” Ellis of Troy, PA, Marnie Marini (John) of Cherry Hill, NJ, Mark Ellis (Donna) of Alburtis, PA, Richard “Scott” Hollis of Rockford, IL, Jamie Boyers of Waynesboro, VA, and Christopher Ellis (Sara) of Bethlehem, PA. Charles is a grandfather to many: Charles “Jeff” Burden, Michael Marini (Kate), Robert Marini, Reed Ellis, Emily Ellis, Sydney Joseph (Seth), Samantha Hollis, Jakob Boyers, and Benjamin Boyers, and a great grandfather as well: Grace Burden, Xavier Burden, and Connor Marini as well as many nieces and nephews. Charles is also survived by his stepchildren, Ross Callaway of Somerville, TN, Scott Callaway (Robyn) of Friendsville, PA, Mark Callaway (Denise) of Atlanta, GA and Joannie Callaway King (Dan) of Maine, NY, who held him close in their hearts as Dad. His step-grandchildren, who lovingly called him Grandpa: Scott Riggs, Connor Callaway (Rebecca), Cole Callaway (Allexa), Riley Glasgow (Ryan), Hayes Callaway, McCade Callaway (Ariana), Alexie Feduchak (Zeb), and John “Jake” King. Grandchildren: Harper Callaway, William Callaway, Collyns Callaway, Lily Callaway, Lennox Feduchak and Charlotte Callaway. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his first wife, Lois Ellis, second wife Carol Ellis, sister, Mary Jane Ellis, and daughter-in-law, Karen Hollis.

Anyone who knew Charles knew he loved the Lord and lived his life in that spirit. He served as a deacon at New Hope Ministries and drove the church van. He and Priscilla were members and served as greeters at Calvary’s Love Church. As a lifetime farmer, Charles knew hard work and never slowed down, even in retirement. He always tended to a garden, plants and flowers, spending time in the outdoors he loved since his youth, a testament to his Eagle Scout rank, and even tried chainsaw carving and metal sculpture, creating beautiful pieces for his wife to paint and place in their yard. To supplement his farming income, Charles drove bus #15 for Wyalusing School District for over 25 years and hauled several generations of children to and from school during that time. He was a voracious reader and lover of history and always had a conversation at the ready for a friend or neighbor.

He was a special man who left a lasting impression on everyone he met. We will deeply miss his sweet, tender character, his boundless love for others, and that big, beautiful smile that could light up a room or an entire hayfield.

Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Monday, June 15, 2026 from the Birchardville Baptist Church, 16469 Route 267, Montrose, PA 18801 with Pastor Tim Barnett of New Hope Ministries officiating.
