He was valedictorian of Montrose High School, Class of 1966. After high school, Chuck continued his education at the Pennsylvania State University receiving a B.S. in Agricultural Engineering. Chuck worked for the USDA as county manager in northeastern Pennsylvania. He also owned and operated Perkins (Christmas) Tree Farm in Stevensville, PA for more than 30 years. He loved to contribute his special part of the Christmas celebrations to families spanning generations and distant locations.

Chuck loved to travel and visit national parks, most recently traveling to Olympic National Park with his granddaughter, Minnette. His biggest adventure was Nepal to visit his son Adam in the Peace Corps, (it is here the above picture was taken during a welcoming ceremony). In school, Chuck took pride in 4-H, Future Farmers of America, trombone, and choir. Chuck had a personal lifelong calling in planting native trees, conserving wetlands, and maintaining wildlife habitat.
