Charles "Charlie" Francis Howard, age 91, of Homets Ferry, PA passed away on Wednesday morning, November 1, 2023 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Charlie was born on the family farm on November 28, 1931 the son of the late John Homet and Harriet Taylor Howard, Sr. He attended the Camptown School and graduated from Wyalusing High School with the class of 1949. He furthered his education at Penn State University and obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1953 in the field of Dairy Science.
After college Charlie partnered with his brother John Howard, Jr. to operate their farm, Skyline Holsteins. In 1998 he retired from farming and went on to work in Environmental Services with the Williams Auto Group, Sherwood Groves, and Cargill before retiring in 2019.
He and his brothers were active in sports, playing with the Camptown Comets. He was a member of the Wyalusing Grange, the Pennsylvania Farm Bureau and the Dairylea Cooperative. He enjoyed bowling and square dancing.
He is survived by his son, Charles "Chuck" D. Howard of Homets Ferry, PA; his step-children, Donna Kasson, Betty Jo Fitzgerald, and John Armstrong; his companion's children, Peggy Gaylord, Rachel Chetel-Nachman, and Aaron Gaylord, Jr.; his siblings, Lucy Lockwood and William Howard (Leah Adams); his brother-in-law, Ambrose Brennan; his sister-in-law, Shirley Howard; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Vivienne Bergey Howard; his infant daughter, Katie Howard (d. February of 1967); his second wife, Betty J. Howard; his companion, Frances P. Gaylord; and his siblings, James Howard (d. May 2, 2022), John Howard, Jr. (d. April 30, 2022), and Theresa Brennan (d. September 5, 2022).
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 28, 2023 at 2:00 PM from the Wyalusing Presbyterian Church with Pastor Tim Haller of the Oasis Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Homets Ferry Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the church from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
