Charles L. Siracuse, age 89, of Meshoppen, PA and formerly of South Montrose, PA passed away Tuesday, March 3, 2015 at Geisinger Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre, PA. Charles was also a resident at Golden Living in Tunkhannock, PA for nine years.
Charles was born on February 16, 1926 the son of the late Charles and Nellie Hawley Siracuse. He attended Auburn Center High School. He then served his country in the US Navy during World War II aboard the USS Columbia.
Charles married his wife, Leona, in 1945 in her hometown, Thibodaux, LA. He was employed as a machinist and he worked on an oilrig off the shore of Louisiana for the companies McDermott and Guy Scroggens.
He was a member of the Gardner-Warner American Legion Post #154 in Elk Lake, PA and the VFW Post #5642 Ayres-Stone Post in Montrose, PA. Gardening, fishing, and farming were a love of Charles. His greatest pleasure was spending time with his family.
Charles is survived by his brother Daniel E. Siracuse, Sr. and his wife Linda of South Montrose, PA; sister Rose Hymel of Louisianna; brother in law and best buddy Niles Cokely, Sr.; niece Terri Siracuse; and many special nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides his parents Charles was preceded in death by his wife Leona R. Siracuse on June 10, 2005; sister Nellie Cokely; stepbrother Rexford Lott; and special nephew Daniel E. Siracuse Jr.
Funeral services for Charles will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 10:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6, Meshoppen, PA with the Reverend Charles Bishop of the Transue and Elk Lake Community Churches officiating. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9:00 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at a later date at the Jersey Hill Cemetery.
