Obituary

Charlotte Jean Carter, age 84, of Rome, PA entered peacefully into eternal life on Monday morning, October 14, 2024 at the Gracious Living Estates in Montrose, PA.

Born on December 13, 1939 in Sayre, PA, she was the daughter of the late F. Earl (d. Feb. 14, 1995) and Margaret Carr Brenchley (d. March 5, 1999). Growing up in the Canton area, Charlotte attended and graduated from Canton High School with the class of 1957. She would later attend Lackawanna Business College where she would earn her Associates Degree.

Charlotte married Harold Carter on May 7, 1960 and they enjoyed 64+ years of wedded bliss. Charlotte was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed a variety of outside jobs. Most recently, before retiring, serving as Receptionist and Administrative Assistant for Subway Development of North Florida and South Georgia in Gainesville, FL and was a Subway Franchisee from 1996-2006 in High Springs, FL. She also had worked for the Endless Mountains Hatchery in Auburn Center, PA and had worked as a Secretary for the Swayze Folding Box Co. in Canton.

She was a member of the Meshoppen Community Church, a member of the Meshoppen Order of the Eastern Star #70, and a former member of the South Auburn Grange. Charlotte loved to travel and also enjoyed ceramics, collecting "Hens on a Nest", Carter's Ink Wells, and other antiquing. She was very fond of word searches, reading, and attending sporting events. In recent years, she greatly enjoyed traveling to New Hampshire to attend her granddaughter, Allie's dance recitals, gymnastics and cheer competitions.

Charlotte is survived by her husband, Harold E. Carter of Rome, PA; her children, Jana Lyn Verry and her husband, Louis of Meshoppen, PA and H. Elston Carter and his wife, Linda of Pelham, NH; her granddaughter, Alexandra Carter of Pelham, NH; and her nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Beverly A. Seiber and Barbara E. Gurney.

The Funeral Service for Charlotte will be held on Sunday, October 20, 2024 at 6:00 PM at the Meshoppen Community Church, 128 Church St., Meshoppen, PA with Reverend Thomas Mott officiating. The service will begin with an Eastern Star Ceremony conducted by the members of the Meshoppen Order of the Eastern Star #70.  Family and friends may call at the church on October 20, 2024 from 3:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be held on Monday, October 21, 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Jersey Hill Cemetery with Lay Minister Tina Henning officiating.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charlotte's name to the Meshoppen Community Church, 128 Church St., Meshoppen, PA 18630.
