Colleen Rae Newell, age 69, of Springville, passed away on Thursday afternoon, June 18, 2026 in Dushore, PA.

Born in Limestone, Maine on May 12, 1957, she was the daughter of the late Joyce Mason (d. September 19, 2017) and David Melan, Sr. (d. January 27, 2025). After moving to Pennsylvania, Colleen attended Elk Lake High School and graduated with the class of 1975.

After high school, Colleen was led into a career as a millwright. Her mechanical skill, dedication, and strong work ethic, allowed her to thrive in the industry and earn the respect of those she worked with.

In her free time, she enjoyed tending to her flower beds, crocheting, dancing, and watching rainstorms. Most of all she loved cooking for and spending time with her family.

Colleen is survived by her children, Joshua Newell (Alexis), Justin Newell, and Jennifer Lonsdale (Michael); her 6 grandchildren; and her siblings David Melan, Jr., Eileen Dymond (Dave), Michael Melan, and William Melan (Amy).

Along with her parents, Colleen was preceded in death by her brothers, Edward Melan (d. February 10, 1998), and Kevin Melan (d. January 22, 2024).

A memorial service for Colleen will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA 18623 on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00 AM with Reverend Charlie Bishop of the Transue and Elk Lake Community Churches officiating. Family and friends may call at the funeral home from 10:00 AM until the time of service. Interment will follow the service and take place at the Beaver Meadows Cemetery, 2198 Clapper Hill Rd., Laceyville, PA 18623.
