Cora Eleanor Butts Nichols, age 87, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Friday, February 23, 2024 at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born on September 10, 1936 at the farmhouse where she grew up on Lime Hill, PA.  She was the third child of Fred Simpson Butts and Genevra M. Roberts Butts.  While growing up she attended Wyalusing High School.

Throughout the years she had attended churches in Wysox, the Moxie Community Church, the Evergreen Christian Church, Hope Baptist Church and Calvary Chapel.  She was proud to teach Sunday School, sing in the choir, and serve breakfast at the Hope Baptist Church for many years on Sunday mornings.

Cora was a homemaker for her late husband, Charles L. Nichols, Sr. (d. January 13, 2023) and her six children.  She enjoyed doing crafts with her hands, including crocheting, knitting, sewing doll outfits and upholstery, refinishing wood.  She also took great pleasure in reading, pencil coloring, fishing, and planting flowers, trees, and shrubs.  Most of all she loved to spend time with her family.

She is survived by her children, Cynthia Davis Karabush of Chicago, IL, Robert Davis (Merrilee) of Arcade, NY, Fred Davis (Debby) of Kill Buck, NY, Charles Nichols, Jr. (Dawn) of Wyalusing, PA, William Nichols of Wyalusing, PA, and James Nichols of Wyalusing, PA; her grandchildren, Sarah Rose Karabush, of Florida, Elam Karabush of Chicago, IL, Hannah Davis of Franklinville, NY, Rebecca Zingale (Duane) of Redding, CA, Alissa Sitzai (Justin) of Lancaster, PA, Christopher Davis (Christina) of Chesapeake, VA, Marie-Louise Davis of Salamanca, NY, Diana Nichols of Wyalusing, PA, and Joel Nichols of Wyalusing, PA; her great-grandchildren, Chloe and Ariasha Zingale of Redding, CA; her sister-in-law, Caroline Butts; as well as many nieces and nephews.  Besides her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Florence Butts Cufari and Milton Butts.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2024 at 2:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church St., Wyalusing, PA with her former Pastor, Lloyd Penberthy, officiating.  Interment will follow at the Lime Hill Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Saturday, March 2, 2024 from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
