Charnley
September 21, 1979 – September 21, 2024
Cristen Marie Charnley passed peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, September 21, 2024.
Cristen was born on September 21, 1979 to Chuck and the late Mary Ann (Bolles) Place (d. Jan. 27, 2014) in Tunkhannock, PA. She enjoyed her early years growing up on The Place Family Farm in South Auburn, where she and her sister, Rebecca (McClain), were surrounded by aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
She graduated from Elk Lake High School in 1998 as valedictorian, Lafayette College in 2002, and with her Masters in Education from the University of Pennsylvania in 2004. It was at Lafayette College where she made many close friends, and met her adoring husband of 20 years, Jim. They were to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary on September 25.
Her greatest accomplishment was her children, Caitlyn and Jacob. She loved them fiercely with every fiber of her being.
Cristen was also a wonderfully loving aunt to five nephews, Max, Parker, Ryan, Michael, and Theo.
Cristen was a beloved math teacher at Easton High School for nearly 20 years, where she touched the lives of countless students. She was the Rotary Teacher of the Year recipient in 2020 and recognized yearly within the school district as a favorite teacher. Cristen was a cherished member of the faculty who always volunteered to help cover classes when they were short staffed and went above and beyond for her students.
Cristen loved the beach, all things Crayola, trips to New England and going home to South Auburn.
Surviving Cristen, along with her husband, Jim, are her children, Caitlyn and Jacob Charnley of Easton, PA; her parents, Chuck Place and Brenda Smith of South Auburn, PA; her sister and husband, Rebecca and Ashley McClain and their son, Max of Black Walnut, PA; her grandfather, Alfred Place of South Auburn, PA; her father/mother-in-law, Jim and Nina Charnley of Boston, MA; her sisters/brothers-in-law, Elisabeth and Will Bottomley and their children, Parker, Ryan, and Michael of Princeton, MA and Will and Tara Charnley and their son, Theo of Boston, MA and her grandmother-in-law, Renee Alberts of McClean, VA. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Debbie Perkins, Eric and Linda Place, Frances and Marvin Small, Kathryn and Bill Boehmer, George and Dawn Bolles, and Jeannie and Roger Jayne as well as many cousins.
Aside from her mother Mary Ann Place, she is preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Robert (d. Dec. 15, 1998) and Anna Bolles (d. Feb. 26, 2012); her paternal grandmother, Barbara Place (d. Feb. 21, 2013); and her uncle, Chuck Perkins (d. Feb. 13, 2018).
