Obituary

Dale L. Grover, age 72, of Laceyville passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 24, 2020.

He was born on Aug. 24, 1948, the son of the late Elgie and Florence (Decker) Grover of Rush.

Dale was one of four children, Ellen Marie, Donna and Phyllis—all raised in Susquehanna County.

He attended and was a high school graduate of Elk Lake School in Dimock.

After high school, he found full-time employment at IBM in Endwell, NY where he worked for 30 years. At the time of his retirement, he was a purchaser for the company.

Dale lived at home in Rush with his parents for several years until he married Deborah Taylor of Unadilla, NY. They married on June 14, 1975 and eventually became the the proud parents of two children, Amy and Timothy.

He was one who never sat still and always had to be doing something.

After his retirement from IBM, he worked at many odd jobs, also helping his Uncle Ted Decker during his declining health, up until the time of Ted's death in 2005.

In May of 2013, Dale was hired as a Code Enforcer for Wyalusing Borough and was appointed in September 2013 as their Borough Manager.

Dale was quite the storyteller and those who knew him well never quite knew if what came out of his mouth was actually fact.

He was a lover of the outdoors. Dale was an avid hunter and loved target practicing. He enjoyed taking his children, when they were young, fishing. He also enjoyed snowmobiling, riding his ATV and was a lover of camping, spending time with his family many a night at the Merryall Campground until the last flood closed it to the public for good.

Dale also served as a volunteer with the Rush Fire Department for several years.

During the 70s, he and Debbie took up square dancing, becoming members of the Yellow Rock Squares and thoroughly enjoyed traveling around the area to dances.

Dale was so happy to become a grandfather and spent as much time as possible with his granddaughters, Madelynn and Natalie Grover of Auburn.

At the time of his death, he was employed at Wyalusing Borough and Sible and Sons Bait and Tackle located outside of West Auburn.

He was always wearing a smile and enjoyed visiting with people. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law and uncle. He will be greatly missed by his family and also by his friends, of which there were many.

Dale is survived by his wife of 45 years, Deborah at home; his two children, Amy Spunar of Throop and Timothy and his wife, Nikki and daughters, Madelynn and Natalie of Auburn; sisters, Donna (Terry) Nesmith of Childs and Phyllis Smith of Hanover, PA; his brothers-in-law, Clyde Trible of West Auburn, Philip Taylor of Milford, OH, Jeff Taylor of Little Meadows and sister-in-law, Diane Cecil of Archdale, NC; nephews, Brian Trible of Irish Hill, Alan (Laurie) Trible of Auburn Center, Rudolph (Russell) Mattes of Philadelphia, Jeff Mattes of Newark Valley, NY and Shawn (Marzena) Smith of Hanover; nieces, Nancy (David) Keeler of Wyalusing, Kandi Smith of Hanover, Whitney Taylor of CA and Stacey Cecil of NC.

He was predeceased by his parents, Elgie Grover (July 15, 1981) and Florence Decker Grover (Aug. 4, 1993); in-laws, Harold Taylor (Jan. 22, 2012) and Marion (Jackson) Taylor (July 29, 2018); a sister, Ellen Marie Trible (Dec. 18, 2017) and a brother-in-law, Sherle Smith (Dec. 10, 2001).

A memorial service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, Aug. 29, 2020 with Pastor Vickie Ellis officiating. Calling hours will be held prior to the service, from 10 a.m. to noon at Sheldon Funeral Home in Wyalusing.
