Daniel E. Mathis of Stevensville, PA passed away on Friday, September 29, 2023 at his home surrounded by his loving family.  He was born on November 17, 1929 in the front bedroom of the Methodist parsonage on Church Street in Wyalusing, PA.  After high school Dan served his country in the US Army, serving overseas in Germany.  Dan lived in Philadelphia, PA, Auburn, NY and Phoenix, AZ, returning to Spring Hill, PA in 1967 where he lived for 50 years. He spent his last years in Stevensville next door to his son and daughter-in-law.

He is predeceased by his parents, Ernest Mathis, Lyndal Ragains Mathis Browning and Earl Browning, as well as his beloved wife, Virginia and his best friend, Max.  Four children survive him: Daniel Mathis (Dianne) of Trout Creek, MT, Jim Lordi (Cindy) of Port Jervis, NY, Lyndal Mathis Cole (Kevin) of Bermuda Run, NC, Michael Mathis (Ann) of Stevensville, eight grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren.  Also surviving Dan are two sisters: Sally Browning Lionetti and Carol Browning Prasad, many nieces and nephews (notably Tony and Dian Shumway and Steve and Tina Lionetti [most especially Tina!]) and dear family friend, Ruth Ann Wolfe.

Dan worked at P&G for 24 years, retiring to spend his time traveling to Florida with Ginny every winter, woodworking, reading and walking with his dogs. He will long be remembered for his great wit, love of family and friends and his zest for life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Spring Hill Methodist Church with Reverend Helen Learn officiating.  Family and friends are welcome for a visitation on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 from 10:00 AM until the time of the service.
