David H. Powell, age 98, of West Newton, PA (formerly Laceyville, PA), passed away on Friday evening, March 2, 2018 at his home with his family by his side.

David was born on September 15, 1919 in LeRaysville, PA the son of the late David and Cora Crawford Powell. He graduated from LeRaysville High School with the class of 1937. He married the former Elizabeth "Betty" Noone on March 25, 1950 and together they raised four daughters, Claire Ann, Mary Ellen, Marcia Jeanne, and Barbara Jane.

He owned and operated Powell's Service Station in Skinners Eddy, PA. He was a member of Sewickley Grange and Laceyville Rotary Club. David enjoyed traveling to Canada with friends and family. He was also very fond of hunting and fishing.

David is survived by his daughters, Claire Ann Pore (Jack) of West Newton, PA, Mary Ellen Waples (Frank) of Mifflintown, PA, Marcia Jeanne Merlino (Paul) of West Newton, PA, and Barbara Jane Powell of Towanda, PA; his grandchildren, Alana Buljat (Mike), Erin Watkins (Brian), Brianne Olaso (Aedan), Patricia Waples (Mark), Angela Concannon (Alex), David Merlino (Aly), John Merlino, Elizabeth Corey (Sam), Theresa Merlino, Joe Merlino, Sarah Darling (Jason), and Julie Whetzel (Kevin); his great-grandchildren, Addison, Brycen, Callie, Luke, Mia, Elle, Max, Beatrix, Cady, Jacob, Tyler, and Ian; his sister, Erdine Toft , of Owego, NY; as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Noone Powell (d. July 14, 1978); his grandson, Alex V Merlino (d. 2005); his siblings, Inez Williams, Gerald Powell, and Wilma Powell; and his half siblings, John Personius, Margaret Personius, and Thomas Powell.

A memorial visitation will be held on Sunday, March 11, 2018 from 3:00-5:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA. Interment will take place at the Lacey Street Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
