Obituary

Debora Ann Cudworth, age 61, of Moosic, PA passed away on Monday evening October 21, 2024, at the Geisinger Community Medical Center ICU in Scranton, PA, following complications after surgery for a gallbladder removal on Oct 14th.

Debora was born in Meshoppen, PA on April 10, 1963 the daughter of the late James Phillip Teetsel, Sr. (d. January 12, 2012) and Dorothy Arlene Lasher Teetsel (d. April 4, 2017).

Debora was a 1981 graduate of Elk Lake High School and obtained her Associates Degree in Accounting from the Lackawanna Junior College in 1983. She pursued further studies at the University of Scranton to complete her BS in Accounting, but her education was interrupted by the birth of her daughters, Christy and Diana, and her husband's military service.

On May 25, 1985 she married her beloved husband, Robert, in Meshoppen, PA and the couple settled in Moosic, PA where they built their life together. Debora was known for her kindness, dedication to her family and her warm welcoming nature. She was a dedicated and nurturing mother, grandmother, aunt and friend who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Throughout her career, Debora worked with the Scranton Times-Tribune, JCPenney, and Travelocity. She was a Tax Preparer with H&R Block for over 24 years demonstrating her commitment and expertise in helping others. More recently she was employed in the deli at Gerrity's in Moosic. Debora was also a devoted caregiver for her husband, Robert Jr. and her father-in-law, Robert.

Debora was a long-time member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Scranton, PA. She previously sang in the choir and was actively involved in the St. Luke's Women's Group. She and her family enjoyed making Welsh cookies, and helping with Women's Group luncheons and the Shrove Tuesday pancake suppers, sharing her love of community and service. She was also a member of the caregiver support group at the Wilkes-Barre VA.

Debora was a vibrant outgoing person as evidenced by her many friendships and the kindness she showed to everyone she met. If she saw someone in need, she would often buy them a meal demonstrating her compassion in action. Her husband would playfully tease her about earning "karma points" for when she misplaced her phone as it always turned up exactly where she left it.

She was also a strong no-nonsense person fiercely advocating for her husband and father-in-law's care at the VA, where she earned the nickname "bulldog." One veteran at the VA humorously remarked "I need to get me one of them" after seeing her in action one day.

Debora and Robert made many great memories and friends on their trips to DAV conventions, as well as on cruises to the Bahamas and visits to Costa Rica, Cabo San Lucas, Dollywood, Massanutten, and Split Rock. She had a knack for starting conversations with anyone, anywhere.

Debora always put others before herself, having been a caregiver for her husband since 2012, and more recently for her father-in-law after her mother-in-law's passing in January 2023.

She doted on her family, especially her granddaughter, Sabrina, who was the light of her life and she looked forward to spending more time with them after retiring at the end of the year.

Debora is survived by her husband, Robert F. Cudworth, Jr.; her daughters, Christy Lee Cudworth of Wilkes-Barre, PA; Diana Lynn Cudworth of Moosic, PA; her granddaughter, Sabrina Jean of Wilkes-Barre, PA; her half-brother, Michael Cotton of Springville, PA; and her father-in-law, Robert F. Cudworth of Moosic; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.  Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Edna Jean Cudworth.
