Mr. Donald J. DeWolfe, age 87, of 1610 Rattlesnake Hill Rd., Meshoppen, PA. passed away at the Tyler Memorial Hospital, in Tunkhannock, PA. on Tuesday morning, January 10,2012.
Born on the family farm in Jenningsville, PA. Donald was the youngest of 6 children, the son of the late Silas and Emma Poole DeWolf. Growing up in the Jenningsville area, he was the graduate of the Laceyville High School class of 1942. After his graduation of high school, he entered the US Army and served his country with the 153rd Engineer Combat Battalion from 1943 until 1946. Don served in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, stationed mostly in the Philippines, earning three bronze stars, participating in campaigns in New Guinea and the Southern Philippines.
After his military, Donald studied watch making for the Bulova Watch Co., and was employed with the Bulova Watch Co. for over 30 years as a teacher of watch making and working in many other divisions of the company. After retiring in 1990, he and his wife returned to South Auburn, the childhood area of his wife, where they have lived for the last 22 years.
While back in the area, Donald was an active member of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, and an active member of the South Auburn community, where he and his wife were always busy with the South Auburn Grange # 1188, and many other community, and civic activities. He was also a member of the Rought Hall Post #510 American Legion, of Black Walnut, PA.
Surviving is his wife of 63 years, the former Louise E. Tewksbury DeWolfe, to whom he married on June 26,1948. His sons, James A. and his wife Dora DeWolfe of Camillus, NY; and Bryan S. DeWolfe of Kinnelon, NJ. He is also survived by 2 grandsons, Ryan DeWolfe of Rochester, NY, and Christopher DeWolfe, of Binghamton, NY, and a great-granddaughter, Isabella DeWolfe of Binghamton, NY. as well as his extended Tewksbury Family, of several brothers and sisters in laws, and many nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Millicent Willson (2005), Katherine Ackerman (2002), and three brothers, Harold DeWolf (1995), George DeWolf (2004), and Walter DeWolf (2011).
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 13,2012 at 11:00AM, at the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church, with Rev. Dolly Tarreto of the church officiating. Interment will be at a later date at the convenience of the family in the Jersey Hill Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA. on Thursday January 12, 2012 from 2:00 to 5:00 PM or at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the time of the service. Military services will be conducted at the church preceding the funeral services on Friday, by the membership of the Rought Hall Post # 510 American Legion, the Dennis Strong Post # 457 American Legion, and the Endless Mountains Post #3583 V.F.W.
