Obit for Doris Manning (age 85)
Mrs. Doris Manning, age 85, of 2nd St., Laceyville, PA. passed away at the home of her daughter, Jackie Benscoter, on Benscoter Rd., Laceyville, PA., where she had been staying, on Friday morning, March 1,2013.
Doris was born in Laceyville, PA. on March 26,1927 the daughter of the late William and Mable VanVolkinburg Mahoney. Doris grew up and spent her entire life in Laceyville, graduating from the Laceyville High School with the class of 1945.
Doris was a homemaker and housewife for her late husband Arthur E. Manning Sr., and their family. Doris and Art had been married for 61 years, until his death on September 3, 2007.
In her spare time she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Doris was also an avid bingo player.
She is survived by her four children, her sons, Jim and Rose Manning of Evans Falls, PA.; and Arthur "Buddy" and Kelly Manning Jr., of Laceyville, PA.; and her two daughters, Patricia Gruver and George Surplus, of Sugar Run, PA.; and Jackie and Jerry Benscoter, of Laceyville, PA; as well as 19 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandson. She is also survived by a brother, Robert Mahoney of Alabama; and a sister in law, Gloria and Bob Rogers, of Meshoppen, PA. and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Elizabeth (Betsy) Burridge; three grandson, Michael John Manning; Shannon Burridge; and Dennis Scott Gruver; two great-grandsons, Clay Manning; and Dillon Gruver, a sister, Roberta Sleeper and her brother William "Bill" Mahoney.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013 at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville PA, with Rev. Dolly Tarreto, of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the North Flat Cemetery in Laceyville, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, on Tuesday evening March 5, 2013, from 6:00 to 9:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Goodwill Fire Co., PO Box 207, Laceyville, PA. 18623.
