Doris K. Shaffer, 95, of Wyalusing passed away peacefully Friday morning, May 6, 2022 at her recent residence at the Wyalusing Valley Personal Care Home.
Born on September 27, 1926, at her family's home in Sugar Run, she was the daughter of the late Herbert Kunkle, who passed away in 1978, and the late Elizabeth Barnhart Kunkle, who passed away in 2002.
Doris was preceded in death by her husband, Calvin L. Shaffer, who passed away September 10, 2003.
Doris grew up in the Wyalusing area, the majority of her time spent being a housewife and homemaker for her beloved family on the family farm, Green Island Farm in Taylorville. She enjoyed cooking and always had great desserts prepared. Summertime was a time for canning fruits and vegetables, making jellies and jams and freezing sweet corn. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and especially her glass of wine at night! She always had time for family and friends. Doris was a member of the Wednesday night ladies bowling league which she enjoyed. Doris volunteered to help run the chicken barbecue for many years at the Wyalusing carnival every summer. Doris was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, and the Eastern Star organization.
Surviving are her two sons, Richard Shaffer of Taylorville and Alan Shaffer of Wilton Manors, FL; her grandchildren, Ricky (Colleen) Shaffer of Taylorville and Calvin Shaffer of Taylorville; great-grandchildren, Zach, Isaac, Noah, Ethan, and Matthew Shaffer all of Taylorville; as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is her sister, Vera Dean of Texas. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Marion Stewart, in 2010 and her sister, Veda Woodruff, in 2021 and her daughter-in-law, Vanessa Shaffer in 2012.
A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of her family in the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted with the Sheldon Funeral Home, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA. Online condolences may be made at www.SheldonFuneralHomes.com .
