Obituary

Edith Solis, age 88 of Mehoopany, PA, formally of Brentwood, New York, passed away peacefully in her home, listening to Judy Garland sing Over the Rainbow, surrounded by her loved ones, on Friday, September 1, 2017.

Born on February 24, 1929, in New York City, she was the daughter of late Christine Santiago Medina and late Joseph Medina. She is preceded in death by her husband Louis Solis, who she shared 64 years of marriage.

Growing up in Manhattan, her ambition was to be a nurse, in fact she was accepted into a nursing program, but met the love of her life at 18 years old and got married on March 12, 1949. They lived with his mother for one year which was an apartment above a bakery. She said it always smelled good. Moving out on their own, they lived in the city until an opportunity of purchasing their own home in Brentwood, New York. She remembers how they put 5 dollars down for a deposit on their beautiful home.

In the 50 years of living in their home, they raised three children, Louis, John and Martha. Edith was "CEO of my shop" as she put it. Edith ran her home with the motto, "do everything with love". She thoroughly enjoyed her one Yeungling beer a day. She loved to cook, garden, read, play lotto but above all she loved her family.
