IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Elizabeth Lee
Mcclain
June 30, 1959 – November 20, 2024
Elizabeth Lee McClain, lovingly known as Betté, passed away peacefully on November 20, 2024, at 65. Born on June 30,1959, in Trenton, Michigan, to the late Jorgen and Ann Cervenik Helvig,
Betté's life was a testament to quiet strength, resilience, and grace. Betté spent her formative years amidst the timeless beauty of the Endless Mountains, where she was raised in a charming, historic home—a place that would one day become the foundation of her own family's story. After a journey with her husband across the country, from Washington State to New Jersey, Betté eventually returned to the sanctuary of the Endless Mountains, where she chose to raise her children in the peaceful surroundings she so deeply cherished.
Nature was a source of profound peace and fulfillment for Betté. She found joy in the simple yet rich acts of tending her garden and houseplants, relishing quiet walks down her dirt road, and cherishing the companionship of her beloved animals. Summer vacations at the Jersey shore and camping trips in the Adirondack Mountains were treasured moments that made her so happy. But above all, Betté's greatest love was her family. She raised her three daughters with unwavering love, patience, and discipline, imparting to them the timeless values of kindness, humility, and a steadfast work ethic. Her grandchildren were equally blessed to benefit from her nurturing spirit and wisdom. A woman of simple means, Betté never sought wealth or acclaim.
She found profound fulfillment in life's most humble pleasures, deeply valuing the love and companionship of those closest to her. Her kindness, generosity, and quiet strength left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate to have known her.
Betté was preceded in death by her devoted and beloved husband, Michael J. McClain, who passed on May 4, 2018. Her three daughters survive her: Lauralei (John) Carden of Avoca, PA, Sarah McClain of Jenkins Twp., PA, and Annie (Danny) Larson of Wyoming, PA. Her cherished grandchildren adored their Nana: Quinn, Jacob, Claire Carden, Isaiah McClain, and Gia and Chase Larson. Her two brothers and their wives also survive her: Arnt Johnny (Marit) Abrahamsen of Farsund, Norway, and John (Elaine) Helvig of West Auburn, PA. In addition, Betté leaves behind her sisters and their spouses: Katherine (Michael) Canich of State College, PA, Jorgine (James) Joyce of Scranton, PA, Sonja (Tony) DeRosa-Grund of Frenchtown, NJ, Oline (Baron) Haner of Gallipolis, OH, and Sigrid (Michael) Rossi of Bethpage, TN, along with many nieces and nephews.
A Funeral Service to honor Betté's life will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, 8206 SR 6 (Main Street), Meshoppen, PA 18630, on Tuesday, November 26, 2024 at 12:00 noon with Father Patrick Albert of St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church officiating.
