Ellen Rae Rosencrance Cornell, age 61, of 92 King Lane, Laceyville, PA. (Indian Hill), lost her battle with leukemia early Monday morning, July 23,2012, at the Robert Packer Hospital, in Sayre, PA. Ellen displayed courage and humor throughout her entire treatment.
Ellen was born in Waverly, NY, on Nov. 28,1950, the daughter of the late Robert Rosencrance Sr., who passed away on Dec. 1,2001, and Anita Harrison Rosencrance, who passed away on March 16,2002. Growing up in Laceyville, she was a graduate of the Wyalusing Valley High School, class of 1968.
For over 20 years, Ellen worked as a postal carrier in Laceyville and her first concern, even when sick, was her customers.
Ellen enjoyed researching and cataloging the family tree often traveling to remote cemeteries to collect more information. She also was an avid reader and loved to watch the Yankees play baseball. One of Ellen's favorite things to do was to take her granddaughter, Danella, out for a "me and you day". Ellen had a sharp wit and kept those around her laughing with her smart quips.
For over 20 years, she was a member of the Wyalusing American Legion Post#534 Ladies Auxillary; Ellen also served as a liaison between the home association and the Auxillary for many years.
Ellen was devoted to her family and will be greatly missed. Besides her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband Cy C. Cornell, who passed away on January 29,2002. She is survived by her son, Steven Cornell, of Laceyville, PA.; her granddaughter, Danella Cornell of Laceyville, PA.; her three brothers and their wives, Robert and Sandra Rosencrance, of Brackney, PA.; Alan and Susan Rosencrance, of New Market, MD; and Albert and Wen Rosencrance, of Great Falls, VA. She is also survived by her nieces, Debra Rosencrance; Charlene Lohmuller and Anna Rosencrance, and her nephews, Michael Rosencrance; Jeffery Rosencrance and Kevin Rosencrance.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, July 26,2012, at 11:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA. with Rev. Richard Vieldhouse, a long time family friend officiating. Interment will be in the Lacey St Cemetery in Laceyville, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday evening, July 25,2012, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
