Obituary

Ellen Marie Trible, 80, passed away at Geisinger CMC in Scranton on the evening of Monday, December 18, 2017 after being airlifted on Monday, December 11, 2017.

She was born on July 30, 1937, the daughter of Elgie and Florence (Decker) Grover. She was raised in the Susquehanna County Community of Rush.

Her middle name of Marie is the name that everyone knew her by, with the exception of her father, Elgie, who called her by her given name, Ellen. Marie grew up in a loving family and was the oldest of four kids. The roll call was Marie, Donna, Phyllis and Dale.

At the young age of six, Marie was taken to Robert Packer Hospital (RPH) in Sayre, in the back seat of the family car, stiff as a board, where it was discovered that she had contracted polio. She spent a year in recovery at RPH and when she was sent home, it was thought that she would never walk again. Apparently, Marie had an inner strength, and with the use of body braces and crutches, she taught herself to walk.

She attended the Rush School and graduated one year later than she should have, due to her year-long hospitalization, and ended up being Valedictorian of her class, the Class of 1956.

It was at Rush High School that Marie met the man that she was destined to marry. It was Clyde Francis Trible of Beaver Meadows that she set her sights on.
After high school graduation, she moved to Binghamton where she resided until marriage. She worked at Specialty Foods Canning Factory in Binghamton, running the office until the birth of her first child, Brian, in the summer of 1959.
Clyde and Marie were married on Oct. 15, 1957 and raised three children, Brian, Nancy and Alan. They celebrated their 60th anniversary this year.

Once the children began to arrive, Marie stayed home to raise them. When they became older, she worked as a store clerk at Furman's in Camptown, Larue's Store in Silvara, and when it became J&N Market she worked there for her daughter, Nancy who was co-owner.

She wrote for too many years to count the Beaver Meadows weekly correspondence column, published weekly in the Rocket-Courier, following in the footsteps of her mother, Florence, who wrote the Rush correspondence column for both the Rocket-Courier and Montrose Independent.

In 1989, she began working at the Rocket-Courier as a receptionist and proofreader, where she worked until her retirement. Marie was also a member of the Beaver Meadows Ladies Aid Society.

Marie was known as a gentle, caring mother, grandmother and aunt. She was an excellent baker, and her pressed Christmas Cookies were famous and quickly devoured during family gatherings. She especially loved children and they equally loved her in return. Even though she was physically challenged from the polio, she took care of Sharon Dutcher as a newborn for a long while after her birth while her mother, Emma, underwent open heart surgery and recovery. She also cared for Jessica Helvig Warner while her parents worked swing shift at P&G and watched her neighbor Jane and Pete McGee's son, Chris, until he reached school age. She also cared for another neighbor child, Jeremy Whitney.

Marie also had a special relationship with two of her grandchildren, Randy Trible and Jimmy Lynch. She had a special place in her heart for those two. As the boys grew into adults, they would call her on the telephone on a regular basis. Jimmy was a regular overnight guest at gram and poppy's house during his childhood. He and gram would go shopping and out to eat nearly every weekend, and Jimmy would always earn a little shopping money by pumping her gas.

The last two years of Marie's life had been especially tough for her.
In August of 2015, her health began to decline when she suffered a series of strokes that took the use of her legs and half of her eyesight. She spent a couple of weeks in Robert Packer Hospital and nearly a month in a skilled nursing facility before returning to her home. Once she returned home, she began to improve, and after a lengthy recovery she was once again able to resume having her hair done weekly at Jeanne DeRemer's Beauty Salon. Anyone who knew Marie knew her hair was very important to her. She was known for being a snappy dresser. Her clothing was always neatly pressed and not a hair on her head was ever out of place.

She also looked forward to going out to eat and to movies with her girlfriends, Jane McGee, Karen Bond and Diana Lamb. She went out to eat so frequently that she was teased that she should weigh hundreds of pounds. Somehow, even though she had very limited physical activity due to the polio, she never wore more than a size 12 petite.

She was predeceased by her parents, Elgie Grover (July 15, 1981) and Florence Decker Grover (Aug. 4, 1993) and in-laws, Glen Trible (March 16, 1965) and Florence Marbaker Trible (May 28, 1954) and brothers-in-law, Orrin Ross (Jan. 18, 2000) and Sherle Smith (Dec. 10, 2001).

Marie is survived by her husband, Clyde of Beaver Meadows; and their children, Brian Trible of Irish Hill, Nancy (David) Keeler of Lime Hill and Alan (Laurie) Trible of Auburn Center and sister-in-law, Mae Ross of Laceyville. Also surviving are her siblings, Donna (Terry) Nesmith of Childs, Phyllis Smith of Hanover and Dale (Debbie) Grover of Laceyville; her grandchildren, Jeanine Lynch of Chester Spring, PA, Heather Trible of San Antonio, TX, Brian Trible, Jr. of Montrose, James Lynch of Sayre, Michael (Whittney) Lynch of Tunkhannock, Alan Trible, Jr. of Tunkhannock, April Trible and Randy Trible of Auburn Center and step-grandchildren, Will (Christina) and Mark Keeler, all of Redding, CA; her great-grandchildren, Sicilia Trible, Aurora Trible, Maximus Trible, Derrick Trible, Rowan Trible, Hadlee Browning and Adeline Lynch; her step-great-grandchildren, Jaeda Keeler, Andre Keeler and Cynthia Grace Keeler and by several cousins, nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to Christine Keeney, CRNP, and Katie Henfling, CRNP, who provided extraordinary medical care to Marie throughout her most recent health issues. Katie took over after Christine retired. Katie referred to Marie as the healthiest sick person that she knew. The family thanks personal care providers Alyssa Hicks, Jenny Newhart and Angie Cummings who helped her at home. They provided such loving care to Marie, and she was grateful for their assistance.
