Esther Gamble Tyrrell, age 80, of Wyalusing, PA, passed away Tuesday evening, January 24, 2017 at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.

Esther was born on May 28, 1936, in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Carl N., who passed away on August 7, 1963 and Laura W. Snell Gamble, who passed away on April 12, 1957. She graduated from Northeast Bradford High School with the Class of 1956. She continued her education through Commercial Studies. Esther married Charles Monroe Tyrrell on June 23, 1956. The couple was married for 45 years until his passing on August 15, 2001.

She was employed with the Ames Department Store in Towanda, PA. She was the lead cashier and also the head of houseware and soft-lines until her retirement in June 2002. Esther loved to crochet, do needle point, and tend to her garden. She volunteered by taking donations for lung cancer. She was a very hard-working woman who took care of her home and family. She loved to spend time with her family especially her grandchildren, as she would babysit her grandchildren for years after her retirement.

Surviving is her daughter Angie Ely and her husband Mike of Wyalusing, PA; daughter-in-law Lisa Cici Tyrrell of Canton, PA; grandchildren Brandon Hillyard and his wife Christina of New Albany, PA; Tyler Hillyard and his wife Amber of New Albany, PA; Mackenzie Hillyard of New Albany, PA; Janine Muench and her husband Ross of Bloomsburg, PA; and Dan Ely of Wyalusing, PA; great-grandchildren Branson and Preston Hillyard; Ava and Christian Muench. Also surviving are her brothers Earl Gamble of LeRaysville, PA; and Alan Gamble and his wife Sue of Florida, as well as many nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and parents she was preceded in death by her son Gayle S. Tyrrell, who passed away August 28, 2014; sister Marion Brown, who passed away in November 2014; and sister-in-law Paula Gamble, who passed away in October 2008.

Family and friends may call on Sunday, January 29, 2017 at Sheldon Funeral Homes, 155 Church Street, Wyalusing, PA from 2:00 – 4:00 PM. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family at Wyalusing Borough Cemetery.
