Franz “Frank” Schmitt went to go be with the Lord and his beloved wife Judy, on Friday, February 20, 2026.

Born in Burgstadt, Germany, Frank came to the United States at the age of 22. After meeting his wife they settled down in Rutherford, NJ where they would raise their three children. Frank was a dedicated and hardworking Plumber who gave over 30 years of service to Plumbers Union Local No. 24 as a General Foreman.

Frank treasured his property in Wyalusing he bought in 1976, which became his home away from home. He was a nature and animal lover, as well as, an avid bird watcher. He enjoyed raising his pigeons over the years on his property and eventually added horses, cows and goats. After taking early retirement, Frank and Judy made the permanent move to Wyalusing in 2000. He loved walking around the town, enjoying the country views and sitting on his porch watching and admiring the townsfolk, always greeting people as they passed by.

Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Judith “Judy” Schmitt (2015) and his brother, Herbert Schmitt. He is survived by his sons, Christopher Schmitt and Franz K Schmitt Jr., daughter and son-in-law, Kristen & Keith Drumheller (nee Schmitt), as well as two sisters Mechtilde and Krista whom still reside in Germany. Frank also leaves behind his three beloved granddaughters, Abigail Schmitt, Ellie Schmitt and Cecelia Drumheller, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Memorial Service and interment for family and friends will take place at the Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, NJ at a future date.
