Fred Furman Phinney, age 93, of Laceyville, PA passed away on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at the Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA.

He was born on March 30, 1931 at the homestead in Jenningsville, PA the son of the late Orrin and Evelyn Furman Phinney, Sr..  He was a graduate of the Mehoopany High School with the class of 1949.

Fred began his contracting career with his father, Orrin.  He built many homes, additions, and made many renovations in the area.  He retired when he completed his home that he built in 2005.

He was a member of the Evergreen Christian Church.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping.  He took great pleasure in touring the area checking on the gas wells.

Fred is survived by his children, Mark Phinney and his wife, Ruth of Rochester, NY and Susan Phinney of Laceyville, PA; his grandchildren, Lauren Chapman and her husband, Micah, and Justin Phinney and his wife, Anna, all of Rochester, NY; his great-grandchildren, Nolan and Harper Chapman; his siblings, William Phinney and his wife, Lynda, of Laceyville, PA; Grace Ann Iffert or Tunkhannock, PA, Joyce Place of Kendallville, IN, Betty Charland of Laceyville, PA, Donna Latini of Spring Hill, PA, Janice (Dubois) Selbig of Dallas, GA; and Lois Phinney of Laceyville, PA; his brother-in-law, Roger Valentine of Laceyville, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Fred was predeceased by his wife, Yvonne Ann Cornell Phinney, who passed away on November 1, 2004; his brother, Orrin "Sonny" Phinney, Jr.;  his sisters, Geraldine Fassett and Helen Valentine; his sisters-in-law, Pat Phinney and Ellen Cornell; and brothers-in-law, Joe Fassett, Paul Iffert, David Place, Ernest Latini, Ivan Cornell, Cy Cornell, and Melvin Cornell.

Funeral Services will be held for Fred on Wednesday, October 16, 2024 at 10:00 AM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main Street, Laceyville, PA with Reverend Richard Vieldhouse officiating.  Interment will follow at the North Flat Cemetery.  Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday, October 15, 2024 from 5:00-7:00 PM at the Sheldon Funeral Home in Laceyville.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
