Frederick Charles Giffin, 81, of Laceyville, PA went home to be with his Lord on Friday morning, February 16, 2024 following a period of declining health.
Fred was born on April 29, 1942 the son of the late R. Wright and Eula (Haire) Giffin. He was a graduate of Wyalusing High School with the class of 1960 and Penn State University in 1965. After obtaining his degree he served in the US Army Reserves.
Working for his business Giffin Construction Company, he had a life long love of dirt moving machines, building bridges, roads, waterway dams, and any other project that moved dirt.
He obtained his single engine aircraft pilots license in 1959. He loved flying his Comanche Piper 250. Following that certification, he became certified for a Bell 47G helicopter and would often give family and friends a ride in the "Bubble."
Fred is survived by his wife of 46 years, Bonnie (Russell) Giffin; his children and spouses, Susan and Philipp Weniger of Hanover, Germany and Steven and Karen Giffin of Millersville, PA; precious grandchildren, Phoebe and Owen Weniger and Kyle and Michelle Giffin; and his mother-in-law Flora Frost (Jim Frost). Fred was predeceased by his brother, Thomas (age 12); his parents in 2003; and his father-in-law, Bub Russell in 2007.
The family would like to give special appreciation to Brian Yurgatis, Marcy Newhart, and the Guthrie Hospice team for their loving assistance with Fred.
A Celebration of Life luncheon will be held on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Tri-County Sportsman's Club, Board Road, Laceyville, PA.
