Mrs. Gail E. Swisher Burr, age 80, of 6 Rails Rd., (Burr Hill), Tunkhannock, PA., passed away in the early morning hours of Friday, Oct. 25, 2013, at the Tyler Memorial Hospital in Tunkhannock, PA.

Gail was born in West Auburn, PA. on April 28, 1933 the daughter of the late Searle P. (Oct. 9, 1981), and Lola M. Greene Swisher (Jan. 12, 1987).

After her family moved to the Meshoppen area, Gail was a graduate of the Meshoppen High School, class of 1951. While in high school, Gail met her husband, C. Ronald Burr. Gail and Ron were married on March 17, 1951. Ron passed away earlier this year, on Feb. 22, 2013, they would have celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary this last March.

After their graduation and wedding, Gail and Ron would build their home on Burr Hill just outside of Meshoppen, on the Burr's Poultry Farm, where Ron became the third generation poultry farmer. Gail was a housewife and homemaker, for Ron and their family.

Gail was a member of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church, and it's United Methodist Women. She was also a member of the Order of Eastern Star, Meshoppen Chapter #70, a board member of the Francis E. Kennard Library in Meshoppen, the Meshoppen Mrs. Birthday Club, and a very active and proud member of the Wyoming Co. Republican Party. In her spare time, Gail loved working outside around her house. Many days throughout the years, she could be seen gardening, mowing lawn, and working around her house, she always had many bird feeders, and enjoyed watching all of the birds that were around her home.

Gail is survived by her daughters Donna Burgess of Meshoppen, and Cindy and Chris Ferris of Meshoppen, and her son in law Raymond Buckingham of Meshoppen, grandchildren Kelly and Gary Robbins of Retta, PA, Jenny and Les Proffer of Pueblo, CO, Jolene Sharer of Meshoppen, Jeffrey and Melinda Buckingham of Mehoopany, PA, Christopher Buckingham of Meshoppen, Brianne Buckingham of Meshoppen, Nathaniel Buckingham of Tunkhannock, Kassandra Buckingham of Springville, PA, Autumn Ferris of Meshoppen, and Jordan Ferris of Meshoppen; her great-grandchildren Logan Robbins, Alisa Proffer, Tyrus Proffer, Kaiden Proffer, Joshua Sharer, Dylan Sharer, Kayleigh Welch, and Brock Welch Jr.; her sisters, Betty VanDusen of Florida, and Joanne Hinkley of Tunkhannock, PA., as well as several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband and her parents, Gail was preceded in death by her sons Raymond Spencer Burr (September 28, 1955) and David Ronald Burr (January 23, 1984) and a daughter Carol Burr Buckingham (January 25, 2009), also her two brothers, Searle Duane Swisher, and Robert Swisher.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday morning, October 29, 2013 at 11:00 AM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St. Meshoppen, PA with Rev. Thomas Mott, and Rev. Gil Clark, of the Meshoppen United Methodist Church officiating. The committal service will follow at the Overfield Cemetery in Meshoppen. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Monday, October 28, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 PM and 6:00-8:00 PM with the Order of Eastern Star services conducted by the members of the Meshoppen Chapter #70 at 7:45 PM, on Monday evening.
