Mr. Gary Alan Oakes, age 49, of Wilkes Barre, PA, passed away unexpectedly, on Wednesday morning, January 20, 2021, at his home in Wilkes Barre, PA.

Gary was born in Montrose, PA, on April 15, 1971 the son of the late Gilbert L. Oakes Sr., who passed away on January 21, 1997, and the late Lena "Faye" Harvey Oakes, who passed away on February 22, 2014.

Growing up in the Meshoppen area, Gary attended the Elk Lake High School. Gary was employed by many and at many places in the Dallas and surrounding areas, working as a handyman in the construction, mechanical and HVAC fields.

In his spare time he enjoyed the outdoors and being out in nature, especially walking along the Susquehanna River and many favorite steams, from Meshoppen, down the river into Wilkes Barre. Gary enjoyed fishing, and watching the animals. He also enjoyed the time that he got to spend with his family.

Surviving is his long-time companion, Norma Moku, of Wilkes Barre, PA, his daughter, Cheyenne Lynn Kalika Oakes, of Wilkes Barre, PA, a step daughter, Evelyn Brislin, of Wilkes Barre, PA, and his granddaughter, Ivory. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters, Gilbert (Beth) Oakes Jr., of Meshoppen, PA, Cindy (Nick) Cona, of Meshoppen, PA, Brenda (Roger) Green, of Tunkhannock, PA, and Donald Oakes, of Meshoppen, PA. Gary is also survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Memorial services and interment will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family.
