Gary R. Woodruff, age 66, of Wyalusing, PA passed away on Wednesday, October 14, 2015 at Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
Gary was born on March 28, 1949 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Ralph E. Woodruff and Martha Vargeson Woodruff. He graduated from Wyalusing Valley High School with the Class of 1967. In high school, Gary was a very established athlete as he was a 7-letter award winner including 4 letters on the baseball team as a catcher. On November 17, 1967, Gary married his best friend, the former Gene Anne Gaylord. Gary was a hard working man who had a very successful 42-year career for Masonite/Craftmaster. His will power and determination showed when he started as a manual laborer and made his way up the ranks to production manager for the entire plant.
Gary was a member of the Wyalusing United Methodist Church. He served as director of Wyalusing Youth Wrestling, Wyalusing Borough council member, former school board director for 8 years, former Lions Club member, and a member of the Towanda Country Club. He was a Little League and Teener baseball coach as well as an elementary wrestling coach. Gary was a very loyal Wyalusing Valley athletic fan who also never missed a musical production. In 2014, Gary was inducted into the Wyalusing Wrestling Hall of Fame. He leaves behind a multitude of Wyalusing students that he held dear to his heart, as well as many dear friends. Gary enjoyed golfing, especially with Matt, Denny, and Joe every Sunday. He also enjoyed cooking, music, and his family, in particular his grandchildren. His life revolved around traveling, sports, and his grandchildren. Gary was a man that appreciated life, laughter, and if he picked on you- it meant that he loved you. He embraced life and the people that were a part of it. He will be remembered for all the lives of the people he has touched in the Wyalusing community.
Besides his loving wife of 47 years, Gary is survived by his son Christopher and his wife Jeannie of Wyalusing, PA; their children Adam and Aaron, both students at Mansfield University and Matthew, a student at Temple University. Gary's son Mark and his wife Stefania of Wyalusing, PA; their children Morgan, a freshman at WVHS and Nicholas, a sixth grader at WVES. Gary is also survived by his brother Glen Woodruff of Meshoppen, PA; brother Lloyd Woodruff of Meshoppen, PA; Verne Woodruff of Laceyville, PA; Tracy Woodruff and his wife Beth of Wyalusing, PA; brother Austin Woodruff of Laceyville, PA; step-mother Pam Woodruff of Laceyville, PA; sister-in-law Nancy Tinna and her husband Richard of Tunkhannock, PA; sister-in-law Connie Roache of Tunkhannock, PA; brother-in-law Thomas Gaylord and wife Deborah of Dallas, PA; uncle James Mann of Cambria, CA; special nephews Trevor Woodruff, Jayme Tinna, and Paul Krewson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents, Gary is preceded in death by his brother Phillip Woodruff, grandparents Burt and Elizabeth Woodruff, as well as his parents-in-law George and Vera Gaylord.
Funeral services for Gary will be held on Sunday, October 18, 2015 at 3:00 PM at the Wyalusing United Methodist Church with Reverend Heather M. Baker-McAllister of the church officiating. Interment will be held at the Wyalusing Borough Cemetery following the service. Family and friends may call at the church from 1:00 PM until the time of the service.
