Gene F. Shoemaker, Sr., age 72, of 44 Heller Rd., Laceyville, PA passed away at his home on Friday night, March 14, 2014 after an illness.
Gene was born on May 22, 1941 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Arthur and Nellie Shoemaker. He attended and graduated from Meshoppen High School.
After high school Gene served his country in the US Army. He served during the Vietnam War. Gene worked as an over the road truck driver.
He was a member of the Rought Hall Post # 510 American Legion in Black Walnut, PA. He was also a member of the NRA. Gene loved to hunt, fish, and play softball. He especially enjoyed bowling with his wife, Beverly.
Gene is survived by his wife Beverly A. (Acly) Shoemaker, five children, and several grandchildren. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his stepmother Ruth Shoemaker.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 11:00 AM at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Laceyville, PA with Reverend Charles Bishop of the Transue Community Church officiating. There will be Military Service preformed prior to the funeral service by the members of the Rought Hall Post# 510 American Legion of Black Walnut, PA, the Dennis Strong Post# 457 of Tunkhannock, PA, and the Endless Mountains V.F.W. Post# 3583 of Mehoopany, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 9:00 AM until the time of the services.
