Obituary

Mr. George W. Bitler, age 89, of 173 Allen St., Meshoppen, PA. passed away at the Golden Living Center, in Tunkhannock, PA. where he had been a resident for the last month, late Friday evening, Feb. 24,2012.
Mr. Bitler was born in Mehoopany, PA. on Feb. 10,1923 the son of the late Thomas and Mabel Manning Bitler. Growing up in Washington twp., Wyoming Co, PA. he was a lifelong resident of Wyoming Co. He was a graduate of the Tunkhannock High School. After high school he started working for the Stanek Poultry Farm, on Stanek Rd., in Meshoppen and later worked for Burr's Poultry Farm also in Meshoppen, PA.
He was a long time member of the Mehoopany United Methodist Church, and in his spare time he enjoyed following all kinds of sports, especially an avid Philadelphia Eagle fan.
Surviving is his sister in law, Mrs. Alice Bitler of Meshoppen, PA. a nephew, Rev. Kenneth Bitler, currently a missionary in Trinidad, two great nieces and one great nephew. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Albert Bitler in 1999, and a niece, Sandra Bitler.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 29,2012 at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, PA., at 4:00 PM with Rev. Jean Swett of the Mehoopany United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will be in the Vaughn Cemetery in Mehoopany, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 3:00 PM until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, those wishing may make memorial donations to the Mehoopany United Methodist Church.
