Obituary

George M. Lear, age 93, of 2622 Spring Hill Rd., Laceyville, PA passed away Wednesday evening, January 6, 2021 at Tyler Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

George was born on December 21, 1927 in Plumsteadville Twp, PA the son of the late Clarence S. and Hettie (Miller) Lear.  On December 27, 1952, he married the love of his life, Mabel A. Chatburn.  They enjoyed 61 wonderful years together until her passing on March 5, 2014.

Together George and Mabel farmed for 14 years in Richboro, PA.  After leaving the farm, George worked 26 years for the Central Bucks School district as a custodian.  Mabel and George moved to Bradford County 27 years ago after retiring, living near Troy and later moving to their present home on Spring Hill in 2001.

In recent years, George enjoyed tending to his home, mowing his lawn, creating latch hook rugs and watching the RFD channel.  He also enjoyed the time he spent with his special friend Bart Tewksbury, traveling around visiting neighbors and going on road trips to see his siblings.  He was also fond of his 'girls' Olivia Tewksbury and Karissa Brown who kept him company, cleaned for him and made sure he was fed, especially his sweet tooth, during his final months.

George is survived by his dear sister Gladys Neppes of Hamburg, PA; and his two brothers Clarence (Bud) Lear Jr. and wife Maggie of New Hope, PA; and Walter Lear of Alexandria, PA; as well as many nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sisters Emma Diehl, Doris Long and Olive Davis; and brothers John Lear, Garwood Lear and Herbert Lear.

Memorial graveside services will take place at a later date at the convenience of the family at the Whitemarsh Memorial Park in Ambler, PA.

Arrangements were made through the Sheldon Funeral Homes, Main St., Laceyville, PA.
