George F. Wilmarth Jr., age 71, of Laceyville, PA (Doolittle Hill), passed away on Monday afternoon, December 19, 2022, at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, PA.
George was born in Meshoppen, PA, on August 2, 1951 the son of the late George F. and Hazel Louise Webber Wilmarth Sr.
Growing up in Laceyville, PA, he was a graduate of the Wyalusing High School with the class of 1970. During the time as being a young boy, he was always working, starting at the age of eleven, working at the farm of Bob and Elaine LaFrance in South Auburn. During the years of high school, he worked for Francis Lockburner, at the Laceyville Discount Store. After his graduation George started his adult employment at the Procter and Gamble Paper Plant in Mehoopany, PA, after working there for ten years, George started driving truck, hauling milk and logs, where he drove for his brother in law, Herb Gleason. For the last years of his employment he enjoyed the time he got to spend outside working and leasing stone quarries and stacking stone walls.
In his spare time, George enjoyed hunting and tinkering around his home and caring for his lawn. During his younger years, he raced stock cars at the Herb Harvey Speedway in Lemon, PA. He also enjoyed his time spent with his family, whether it was at family outings, picnics, swimming at his family's property, Wilmarth's Falls, or waterskiing on Lake Verex, in South Auburn.
Surviving is his wife, Sharon Purdy Wilmarth of Laceyville, PA, his children, Francie Coats (Victor Larkins), of Meshoppen, PA; Neil (Debbie) Wilmarth of Lemon, PA; and Angela Wilmarth (Joseph Hemighaus) of Dushore, PA, and his 8 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren. George is also survived by his siblings, Donna (Herb) Gleason, of Laceyville, PA; Susan (Rev. Doug) Hoeffner, of Laceyville, PA; Dale (Judy) Wilmarth of Springville, PA; Karen Herron of Laceyville, PA; and Duane (Connie) Wilmarth of Laceyville, PA, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Private Memorial services will be held at a later date at the convenience of his family.
