Grace M. Larrabee Bell, age 96, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Friday, March 4, 2016.
She was born to the late Alice C. (Dunlop) and Wallace L. Larrabee in New Albany, PA on November 25, 1919. When she was younger she lived in Trenton, NJ and spent summers in Camptown, PA.
Upon finishing training at John Hopkins, Grace entered the WWII as an Army Nurse along with her sister Bonnie and her brothers Pete and Rich. They were known as the "Lucky Larrabees'" due to their reunions in Europe. Grace's eldest brother, Bob, was married and remained stateside. In Europe she met Captain Robert Bell, a highly skilled dentist, who she married shortly after the war.
Grace and Robert lived in a tent while their home was built on a plateau in Sherburne, NY. Grace worked as a nurse in Norwich, NY and later at Towanda Memorial and GTE Slyvania. In 1963 the Bells purchased a 200 acre farm on Lime Hill where they raised numerous livestock.
Grace had many hobbies, which she pursued with the vigor of a professional in the fields of fiber and fine art, poetry, gardening, antiques and doll making. She was known for her story telling and made many friends. The Bells traveled extensively in their retirement years.
She is survived by her three children, Daniel Bell, Bonnie Bell Hilfiger and her husband Gary, and Pete Bell and his wife Nancy; her grandchildren and spouses Larissa Bell Bacorn (Mitch), Dr. Wallace Baker (Heather), Micah Baker (Melissa), Katie Baker Lowry (Brian), Dr. Ryan Bell (Chrissy), Melissa Bell Payne (Jeremy), and Glenn Bell; eight great-grandchildren; her foster sisters Helen DeSantis and Shelia Kline; as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
