A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 16, 2026 at 1:00 PM from the Sheldon Funeral Home, 459 Main St., Laceyville, PA with Reverend Perry Munro of the Skinners Eddy United Methodist Church officiating. Interment will follow at the Lacey St. Cemetery in Laceyville, PA. Family and friends may call at the funeral home, Thursday morning, from 11:00 AM until the time of the service.
Harold Carl Salsman, 96, of Laceyville, passed away on April 11, 2026. A lifelong resident of the area, he was born on May 4, 1929, at the Salsman Family Farm on Golden Hill, Laceyville, PA. He was the son of the late Fred V. (d. March 8, 1988) and Effie May McCarroll Salsman (d. August 15, 1956).
Harold was a man known to be upfront and strong willed and those who knew him understood his personality.
Harold was a man who understood that life was sustained by hard work. Prior to purchasing the family farm in 1969, Harold worked for Penn DOT. Following the sale of his dairy herd, he was employed by Wyoming Sand and Gravel. In his free time, Harold enjoyed playing cards, hunting, fishing, including the annual fishing trip to Gananoque, Canada and Black Lake, New York. He also enjoyed watching Philadelphia Phillies baseball.
Harold was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Janette (Long) Salsman, who passed away September 8, 2022. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Christine Brown (d. April 20, 2014), his son, Michael Salsman (d. October 24, 2014), his grandson, Blaine Salsman (d. December 29, 1992), and his daughter-in-law, Michelle Salsman (d. December 2, 2019).
He is survived by his children, Stephen Salsman (Barbara Cook), Dean Salsman (Karla Salsman), and Timothy Salsman (Kelly Adams), as well as numerous grandchildren including, Catherine Doerner (Jeff Doerner), Sandra Fuhrey (Scott Fuhrey), Austin Button, Shawn Salsman (Robin Salsman), Deana Patson, Courtney Salsman, Ashleen Ambrosius (Aaron Ambrosius), Patrick Salsman, and Karissa Salsman (Zack Dickenson), as well as numerous great grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.
Growing up as one of thirteen children on what would be designated a Pennsylvania Century Farm (2002), Harold is survived by his siblings Letha Robinson, Glen Salsman, Martha Adams, Thelma Larrabee, Marjorie Bahr, Nancy Vargason, and Fred “Sonny” Salsman.
