Obituary

Helen "Jean" Ann Daly Caine, age 90, of Spring Hill, PA passed away peacefully on March 23, 2026, at her residence, surrounded by her loving family. A woman of remarkable dedication and varied accomplishments, Jean's life was marked by her commitment to both family and community.

Born on July 24, 1935 in New York, NY, she was the daughter of the late James and Helen McGartel Daly. Jean graduated from a Catholic high school in Scarsdale, NY, before pursuing higher education at Loyola University in Baltimore, MD, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree. She furthered her academic achievements with a Master’s degree in Education, reflecting her lifelong passion for learning and service.

Jean met the love of her life, James H. Caine in Lake Wallkill, NJ and would marry him in February of 1959. In 1965, they moved to Pennsylvania and bought a home in Spring Hill where they would raise their six children.

Professionally, Jean embraced a diverse and impactful career trajectory. In 1970, she and her husband purchased and operated the Towne Tavern in Wyalusing, PA, showing her entrepreneurial spirit. A decade later, they expanded their business ventures by acquiring the Marie Antoinette Lookout and Inn, which their son still owns and operates today. Alongside her contributions in the hospitality industry, Jean dedicated herself to the field of speech therapy, working for BLAST as a therapist for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Her compassion also extended through volunteer work with the Endless Mountains Pregnancy Care Center in Towanda, PA, as well as volunteering at Camptown Elementary School, demonstrating her commitment to supporting those in her community.

Beyond her professional life, Jean had a zest for life that was evident in her personal interests. She enjoyed dancing and traveling, and was an enthusiastic supporter of the Brooklyn Dodgers and New York Giants, passions that brought joy and connection throughout her years.

Jean is survived by her children: Mariann Caine (Harv) of Portland, ME; Jim Caine of Mercur Hill, PA; Tom Caine (Jacqui) of Rock Hall, MD; Patrick Caine (Holli) of Wysox, PA; Eugene Caine of Stevensville, PA; and Kathryn Ciulla (James) of Spring Hill, PA. She was also a cherished sibling to Nancy Roche of Greenwich, CT, and James Daly (Charlene) of Scarborough, ME. Jean’s legacy continues through her eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, who were a source of immense pride and joy to her.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister, Donna King.

Family, friends, and community members are invited to pay their respects at a visitation hosted on March 26, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Sheldon Funeral Homes, located at 155 Church St, Wyalusing, PA 18853.
