Helen Mae Rail, age 88, of West Ave., Meshoppen, PA, passed away at the Community Medical Center, in Scranton, PA, on Saturday afternoon, August 4, 2018. Helen was born in Nicholson, PA on December 6, 1929 she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and B. Bertha Biggar Sabuacak.
Growing up in and spending most of her childhood in the Nicholson areas, she attended school in that area. After moving to Meshoppen, Helen kept a very busy life, as a housewife and homemaker for her family. Helen also cleaned many homes in the Meshoppen and surrounding area. Helen also babysat for many families throughout the years, with many of those families considering Helen as part of their family.
Helen was a member of the St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen, and also, it's Altar and Rosary Society, she was also a member of the CCD, and enjoyed her many years, as a Girl Scout Leader, in Meshoppen, PA. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting, embroidery, canning, gardening and babysitting. Helen was also a great cook and loved spending time with her loving family.
Helen loved to be surrounded by her family, surviving are her children, Linda L. Harvey and her husband Richard of Tunkhannock, PA; Ronald L. Stephens Jr. and his wife Sandy of Morgantown, WV; Jane Stephens of Clarks Summit, PA; and Sheri A. Rail of Tunkhannock, PA; and her grandchildren, Bridgette Isaac and her husband John of Easton, PA; and Stephen Kman Jr. and his wife Debbie of Norwich, NY and 3 Great-Grandchildren, Stephen, Nicholas, and Nicolina as well as many nieces and nephews. Helen is also survived by her former husbands Ronald L. Stephens Sr. and Thomas J. Rail. Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Sabuacak, and Nicholas Sabuacak; and four sisters, Leona Gerega, Ann Cowperthwait, Margaret Jupina, and Maria Sabuacak, and her best friend, Cora Allyn.
Funeral services will be held at the Sheldon Funeral Home, Main St., Meshoppen, PA on Friday, August 10, 2018 at. 10:00 AM with a Mass of Christian Burial at the St. Joachim's Roman Catholic Church in Meshoppen, PA at 11:00 AM with Father Joseph Manarchuck of the church officiating. Interment will follow at Sunnyside Cemetery in Tunkhannock, PA. Family and friends may call on Thursday night, August 9, 2018 at the funeral home from 5:00 – 8:00 PM with a Rosary to be recited at 7:45 PM.
